Roulette Machines in the bookies

Does anyone play them as they seem sooo popular in a bookies...

I lost 200 in one yesterday and felt really bad after.... said i wont play them again but it is hard... Was mad lost the hundread in my wallet and then tried to chase my money back by using my card... After saving a pund here and there and making my own lunches to save cash... something like this is pure madness...

I go to the bookies every sat and sometimes in the week (yes i may have a problem) but my mates i go with also lose a few hundred pound every week...

Questions

1) how is it legal for the bookies to get a way with a max bet of £200 and the spin to be over in 10 seconds.. I see so many people lose thousands... It seems deadly and there is no restrictions for people who play and cant stop themselves

2) does anyone really win and to me it seems like a biased number generator in the bookies favour... and yet i still play them to try and win...

Im already struggling to give up smoking and havent had a smoke since new year... Can i cope by not gambling aswell... I do love a footy accumulator and its going to place that bet that i play the roulette.

Was this you B.B

Some great advice guys... thanks.. I dont think im strong enough yet to knock it on the head cold turkey but i will never go into a bookies with more than a £20 on me or my bank card... thats a start isnt it

You were saying about accumalators online. I think you're able to opt out of the casino part of the site, that way you can still put the accys on but no need to gamble anymore than that

But what these machines are not is "fixed" by the bookies, at least in the sense that some people might mean, because there is simply no need for the bookies to fix them. The laws of mathematics guarantee them a small but inevitable percentage of the turnover (as low as 1pc in some cases), and there is no more chance of anyone making a clear profit in the long run than there is of the earth suddenly deciding to spin in the opposite direction.

In addition to being programmed by mathematicians who know exactly what they're doing, the machines are now such a major industry - and responsible on their own for keeping many betting shops open - that they are also designed by psychologists who know exactly what they're doing too. The lights, the noises, the immediate chance to chase your losses - these are all constructed and tweaked to keep people playing and maximise return.

For me, there is an obvious distinction between betting (racing, footie etc) and gaming, and the only casino-type game that's ever interested me at all is blackjack, because a clever player can beat it. Roulette & the rest leave me completely cold, because I know that the maths is unbeatable, and the same goes for the machines. There is, of course, an inbuilt profit margin for the bookie on the football too,

Really excellent points Mtoto but the sad thing is you could have all of this printed on the wall adjacent to the machines in questions and people would still be throwing money at them.

I suppose I was lucky when I started on them clocking about 7 or 8 wins in 3 figures from a 5 stake so when I next got hammered for £500 I was still up and wised up quick.

The only way I will play them, which is rare, is put some spare change in on my way out of the shop and see if I can win my horse stake money. Bookies make a third of their income from those machines at least. As others say you should avoid them and fruit machines if you want to profit from gambling.

Is it just me then... i know ive been stupid on occasions at bookies and i consider myself a well rounded person (not meaning im fat :)

Doesn't anyone else bet at all? I might start a poll...

Yes,i gamble quite a bit, but i dont gamble on things that are rigged in the bookies favour.
These machines are probably preloaded with software that kills the punter. sure it pays out now and again and people see that then think it will do it all the time. Thats the catch. You cannot beat computer software! IMO.

Fridays 20:00 to 22:00

15 minutes walk from Hove Station. On left along New Church Road. Entrance through main doors downstairs.

No need to book in advance just turn up at 8 o'clock on Friday. A friendly welcome is assured from people who know exactly all about what it is like to be in your situation. You have got a serious problem and the sooner you seek support and help the better. Take one of your mates from the bookies along with you and do them a favour too.

is the right answer ........habit, chasing , addictive , if you can give up smoking you can give up lobbing your money away..........those machines are not put in shops to GIVE money away mate. good luck with giving it up.

I thought that these roulette machines did offer a payput percentage and to offer a payout percentage must mean that they are rigged in some way? A real roulette wheel cant offer percentage payouts...

I do leave my card at home and take say 50 out but sometimes i forget to take my card out and it all goes tits up...

These machines really should not be allowed in the high street or at least have a £10 spin limit... £200 a spin for a 10 second spin... You could lose you house in an hour... not good its praying on the weak and the poor, its really the people that need the money are the chasers...

So to stop gambling would i have to stop my accumulators on a sat too?? i love my footy bets...

These machines really should not be allowed in the high street or at least have a £10 spin limit
In answer to this, I think its not a case of saying what bookies are allowed to do, they are in business to take your money & a lot of them do it successfully thats why they are on every high street.
Its like saying I cant believe a newsagent can sell fags & it kills you!
If you cant stop yourself find help from GA & good luck.
ps if you cant live without having a footie bet do it online to help you stay out of bookies.

Very sensible advice.

Been there, and it was a very eye-opening, and I managed to give it up for 3 months.

Have slipped up, and have got back on the bad road, so have now got myself excluded from all the local bookies :(

Have lost thousands over the time, as someone else said on this thread, it's the crack cocaine of the bookies, steer clear.

I work in the Bookies as some of you know and I'll tell you how much i've lost on them, a tenner. I also go into bookies as a customer, I don't play them, i've never had a bet at Portman Park, I've never played the New York lotto and i've only ever once done a Will Both Teams Score? bet once, c'mon people excersise some self discipline

I'm sorry to tell you this but you ARE one of the weaker people, you are not strong at all. There's no shame in that btw, but if even half of what you've said on this thread is true then you have got a problem and you need help. You will NEVER win at gambling. Never. Never. Never. Not on machines, horses, football, anything. A tiny tiny percentage of people can make a living from 'proper' gambling it, but they work on a small return, e.g. they expect to win around 2% on a series of linked bets. NO ONE can win on machines. If you continue to play them, even in a reduced way you will continue to lose money. Fine if you can afford it but you can't. So stop.

I would consider Gamblers Anonymous. Seriously.

Maybe... but ive seen much worse. It's those few days after a big loss that i feel i need to win it back... After a few weeks of not gambling it will be easier... However i will always do a tenner line on full football fixture... i dont want to curb every avenue of fun and i am willing to bet £10 - £20 a week on a footy bet...

You were saying about accumalators online. I think you're able to opt out of the casino part of the site, that way you can still put the accys on but no need to gamble anymore than that

I didnt think that this was possible, i shall enquire.. im a member of bet365 and they have those dam bj and casino quick links everywhere... I know they all make soo much money from them all but i wish that there was just a site that was purely sports better and nothing else

What is vcash ?
If you look in the panel to your left, you'll see a figure for vcash just under your post count. It's used for some sort of internal predictions league, a bit like 'Predicting the Blues' if you remember that.
