They should be banned imo. Surprised the govt hasn't. If there's an e-petition thing I'd sign it. Not a sport is it. Ban computer generated races too if they still have them.

I was in the bookies this afternoon and watched a regular blow at least 50 quid in about ten minutes. He must be about 75 years-old and was cursing the machine. I just couldn't think of anything other than "why do you keep feeding the machines notes?" and get nothing back. The effing and blinding made me cringe for someone old enough to know better.

If you have had one big win in the past off say a tenner then you think it can happen again and then after losing say £30 u keep feeding in note after note thinking that your number is going to come and you'll win you money back and a bit more and it that expectation that keeps you going...

Some people are so poor that gambling is the risk that they have to take to get the amount they need...

I really think that these easy access machines in every town and city in the future will be highlighted as a real cause for concern and action will have to be taken...

Im not even sure the government has a clue how much money tese machines take and its not right and generally off the people that dont have it to lose.

I really do wish the government would look into the damage these roulette machines do to punters and offer more support when it becomes a real problem. About ten years ago I use to spunk all my wages on them - 200 quid gone in a few minutes more often than not. I didn't have responsibilities back then but it totally destroyed me slugging my guts out only for the machines to take it all off me. I got 'clean' and it took a lot of will-power not to play them again for a few years.

If you need any support mate, feel free to send me a PM and I'll help you out. Hope things improve and you stay in control. All the best buddy.

43 up on the roulette in coral, trick is to just take it out when you're winning but accept that it will be a small amount- not quite as fun but pays for my saturday fry up

Good shout.. i usually start off small hit a few numbers for 60p then start losing and gradually by stake goes from £3 a spin to £10... if i ever play again i will leave my card at home, only have the money im willing to lose in my pocket and prob had to big spins and see if im lucky....

Best odds in bookies only 3% against you, you need to change two things, level stakes on numbers played and every spin and leave shop when either doubled, say £20 stake, or it's gone.

I was alerted to this thread by a Brighton fan who doesn't want to post and reveal that gambling on these machines has been a problem for them.

That's what the bookies do with these machines. A business model based on addiction and indebtness, knowing that no-one will speak out as it means admitting to having a problem.

You couldn't script it where a government allows something so potentially addictive to be PROMOTED on TV, radio and newspapers.

I'm part of Gambling Reform & Society Perception (GRASP) Group and we're actively lobbying to sort these machines out and the clustering of bookies in our high streets.

Would be great if anyone could sign up and show support. The government are helping peddle this 'something for nonsense' that only leads to carnage and causes crime, divorce, homelessness, mental health, prison etc

Cheers,

Arnold

I was speaking to someone who works at a bookies and he said that the machine in there are their biggest earner. Several grand a day taken out of the wallets of mugs.

They are highly unlikely to ban them. Think how much tax is generated off machines and virtual racing.

Does anyone play them as they seem sooo popular in a bookies...

I lost 200 in one yesterday and felt really bad after.... said i wont play them again but it is hard... Was mad lost the hundread in my wallet and then tried to chase my money back by using my card... After saving a pund here and there and making my own lunches to save cash... something like this is pure madness...

I go to the bookies every sat and sometimes in the week (yes i may have a problem) but my mates i go with also lose a few hundred pound every week...

Questions

1) how is it legal for the bookies to get a way with a max bet of £200 and the spin to be over in 10 seconds.. I see so many people lose thousands... It seems deadly and there is no restrictions for people who play and cant stop themselves

2) does anyone really win and to me it seems like a biased number generator in the bookies favour... and yet i still play them to try and win...

Im already struggling to give up smoking and havent had a smoke since new year... Can i cope by not gambling aswell... I do love a footy accumulator and its going to place that bet that i play the roulette.

take it our on the NSC betting game!

Some people might sympathise, but I just think you are a very stupid person.
£200 quid sweltering on a machine ffs, that already mugged you off for £100 so you throw another c-note's worth in.
Just stupid.

It's not stupid, if you have an addiction you can't stop.

can't remember exactly, but when we used to hang out in the connaught arcade, ( years and years ago), became quite good friends with the owner, he used to reckon the payout percentage was set, (and changed accordingly), often as low as low as 20%.
luckily i was one of those who used to hang around outside getting stoned rather than playing the machines.....
good luck fella, sort it out x
