Rock and Chips

Trigger was wasted too, he provided so many great comedy moments in the old series.

"I'm not the only kid called Trigger around here here, there's someone else in my road they call that"
"Yeah, that's you"

What was funny about that? It was about as funny as wedging sprigs of holly under your foreskin.

I thought there was one funny bit, although I cannot remember it...so it couldn't have been that funny.

But that is the point. Personally I don't think it was meant to be a sitcom type comedy.

If the impression was given by the BBC and media that it was supposed to be, was probably misguided

I know but whatever you want to label the program as, that was an example of one piss poor attempt at a joke.

Wherever The Mood Takes Me
For those who appreciated the clever references to Only Fools.

1. Albie Littlewood

He was the kid who cheated on Del by going out with his bird, though at one point he was Dels “Bestest Friend in the entire world”. Albie would later die taking a short cut across the train track
2. Roy Slater
Slater turned up with some type of muck on him as if he had been made to “walk the plank” while playing pirates with Del and the lads. This was referenced in the episode Del bumps into Slater in the police station in the episode
3. Clayton
Clayton was seen many years later in the Danger UXD Episode when Del and Albert are outside the flats with the dolls dressed up in Joan’s Clothing.
4. Joan’s Clothing
The same outfit worn by Joan in Rock & Chips was also still in the wardrobe in the Danger UXD Episode and used to dress the dolls up
5. Aunt Renee
Clearly she was in the know as Joan’s confidante and would later feature in The Frogs Legacy episode where she reveals the information on Fred Robdal
6. The Flat
It was great to see them moving in to Nelson Mandela House though clearly the name Nelson Mandela House and Zimbabwe House would be added thereafter
7. Jelly Kelly
Jelly Kelly was the guy who died while blowing up one safe too many. He was holding the dynamite when Freddy sat on the detonator. As Del commented in a later episode “he would be no good in a Mexican wave”
8. Joans Work at the Council
This played an important part in how Joan helped out Freddy. It was referenced in The Frogs Legacy where she was able to get her hands on certain files for him
9. Balcony moment
The way Rodney was held on the Balcony was repeated by Del boy years later when Damien was born and held for a few moments while talking to his Mum Joan
10. Jolly Boys Outing
It was referenced in Only Fools as an annual outing and in true 1960s style they did just that. This served to be the moment when a photo of this event provided Rodney the proof in the last only fools episode that he was the son of Freddy Robdal

agreed.

I did think the bit when the cinema manager grabbed Rodneys mum to show here unarmed combat and then stuck his members end in her back was very funny...her face was a picture....BUT the flip side was her reaction knowing she had to put up with him as she was the only breadwinner

Nice one Chez. For me this is why last nights programme was brilliant.

If you a dedicated viewer of ofah then it wouldnt not of been wasted. People who like it but not into it prob just didn't get it.

Hope there is more to come

If they made a series out of it then I think it would have a real niche following of passionate fans. Ok, so it would not pull in the 18million viewers that the orginal used to get but that is not the point.

In fact, I would be happy for it to be a 6 part drama filling in all the blanks. Freddie blowing himself up, the emotional death of Joan, Reg leaving the family home and watching a young Dell attempting to raise a young child. It could be really powerful stuff.

One other point to mention about an inconsistancy,

Del was 16 as the school leaving age was changed yet in the series im sure Del mentioned that Rodney was 13 years younger than him, or did i imagine that?

OK, but not enough drama to be dramatic or comedy to be comedic, OK never meant to be a sitcom but if it is to be made into a series needs to be funnier. I don't want my license fee being spent on a drama for a few obsessives that get entertained by in jokes, understood a lot of the connections but so what ?
