Sometimes i hate our football club. RDZ too honest and ambitious for the PR machine who only give a shit about Barber's annual pay hike and headlines about being "a well run club".

Start of the decline?

Difficult to pinpoint exactly but IMO the decline started with 4-0 at Luton, and was set in with 4-0 at Rome. RDZ's actual and body language worsened (and there were plenty of signs beforehand) and it felt inevitable unless a) a better offer didn't materialise; b) RDZ bought into the TB way.

TB has said that the 'process' may include relegation. He has also set goal of top 10 club and said 'there is no ceiling'. Over a period of few seasons they are not mutually exclusive but trust as we must in TB, I do not always understand whether he is in 'accept relegation' or 'no ceiling' mode.

It isn't an ask. Last year we had the fortune of a Tottenham team in disarray, Chelsea in meltdown, West Ham struggling on all fronts and Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool capable of gaffs now and then. All the stars aligned and Albion didn't have the distraction of a European campaign.

The problem with last season was that folk have started to expect too much now. It's best to expect nothing and just enjoy the ride.

Particularly for those here who thought we were heading to Dublin, palpably ‘season over’ when that came crashing down. There were a load of superior teams/clubs in the EL.

He has been gobbing off a bit last couple of months and blaming poor form on not getting enough bodies in back in January. Maybe been seen to be too unstable. Or perhaps been tapped up.

For me, we played some of the best football I've ever seen us play under his management; plus got to Europe for the 1st time.

That said, once injuries hit and we started losing he wouldn't change tactics and as such seldom had a plan B.

He had a very successful plan B - but it needed players with pace.
It worked supremely well last season, but injuries totally tucked him up this season.

He will be a very successful manager eventually.
But we were never going to be able to give him the quality and depth of squad he needs, to see his tactics to fruition.

Gutted to see him go, but it's probably for the best.

ANyone thinking we are about to employ a manager who will get us to hoof it up to the big man, when we need to mix it up, is in for a big disappointment.

In RDZs head he has been gone for months ever since the January window. My worry now is that we don't see an exodus of players. Seems a little dubious with Lallanas announcement last week. Maybe the players have known for a while

Agreed. I haven't been since going to Rome, partly because of other commitments, partly because season was over then, and partly because that night said a lot about RDZ. I won't forget PG waving cursorily to away fans, removing his shirt and stomping to dressing room without any teammates. He was clearly very angry.

Not necessarily, although it's possible we did give him some sort of lump sum.

Apologies if I have missed someone making similar points...

I think both sides may live to regret this. Is it possible that the differences were small yet insurmountable. For RDZ he would have wanted input into incoming players over the summer ( I personally don't believe the club lacks ambition in this regard). For the club they would have liked to have been able to put their faith in a manager who wasn't living out of a suitcase whilst scanning the horizon.

My guess if from discussions RDZ was not going to stay beyond another 12 months and there was a high chance he would jump before then. Given this inevitability (I am speculating here) a mutual parting of the waves now, gives the club a wider choice of successor and the new man time to prepare a team for next season.

This then reads like a head over heart decision.
