Sat next two a couple of Olympic whingers at the game on Saturday. Chatting about lazy Albion players of the past and I mentioned Bob Cod. They then went on about how he was (allegedly) a bit of a powder user.

I know he was a lazy sod, but did he also have a reputation for substance abuse too?

I was a bit young to be a part of the rumour-mill at the time, but I remember him being arrested for possession of something (and that was after his stint in Lewes for driving whilst disqualified or whatever it was).

...and for the first half dozen games or so after he was released from the nick he was exceptional, probably the best he played during his time with us...so, prison can work for some people, also the last time Lewes ever did anything positive for the Albion.

I seem to remember he captained us (0-0 against Bradford?) just before his sentencing when everyone knew he was going to prison, and it was one of the most powerful displays I've seen. But then I might have imagined it...

I think he was borrowing a friend's car, as he never got convicted of possession

If my memory serves, he was stopped in a motor with his agent (Ambrose Mendy?) and there was some Columbian marching power found in the glove box.

I also remember that he kept his job going in the city whilst with us (worked over the road from one of my best mates). Something that annoyed the club management who felt the (admittedly unusual) situation held him back from commiting everything to the club.

I remember that too. Wasn't Barry Lloyd in charge back then? Would explain a lot...
