It was a woeful decision on the reply and he is the worst ref in the league, but how many people thought it was a pen at first glance?

Does it matter how many? The twat who had the decision to make got it totally wrong.

That f***ing idiot referee was within a few yards with nobody blocking his view. It was a disgraceful decision and he should be removed from refereeing professional games. The decisions he got wrong today were unbelievable. Ruined an important game and robbed Liverpool a victory over Chelscum.

Yep, looked a penalty first time round. However, now we've seen it 30 times from 5 different angles everyone knows better and sees fit to call the bloke a wanker for having to make a split second decision.

To be honest, Rob Styles certainly didn't ruin my afternoon's tv watching. That honour goes to Andy Gray for his incessant opiniated shite. What makes him right and everyone else wrong? I've never seen him with a whistle in his mouth. Scottish prick didn't even have the balls to take the Everton job when it was offered to him, preferring to be a know all **** for some easy money.

Isn't it strange, last week Gerrard told the ref he wanted a free kick for no apparent reason, from which he was given and scored yet no-one really raised any kind of interest as it was againt Aston Villa.

This week a penalty is given against Liverpool for no apparent reason and all hell breaks lose, what was it Gerrard said last week after the villa game about it all balancing out over the season?

Also, Drogba was clear through on goal and would of scored anyway.

Styles was absolute SHITE as always today but I have to say I don't think the pen was the worst decision ever.

I agree if it was against my team i'd feel a little aggrieved cos it's one of those where they're not often given but my view is same as Timbo's, Andy Gray was well OTT about it.

There was contact and of course Malouda ran toward Agger because that's the direction of the goal. Something like that would not be given as a pen very often but anywhere else on the pitch it was a free kick.

That said, STYLES is still one of the worst referees in Premiership history!

I thought the same this evening to be honest. I'll be pointing out tomorrow to the Liverpools fans at work :lolol:

Now he's been taken off next weeks game. Absolute disgrace. No wonder players have no respect for referees.

One bad decision which has only been proved to be bad after slow motion tv replays and he gets publicly hung.

Also why is nobody crucifying Malouda who threw himself over Finnan to try and win the penalty? Surely cheating is worse than making a mistake!

Did anyone think that Finnan was a bit stupid lunging towards the ball that way in the box?

It doesn't appear so. Diving/cheating/stupid/bad players are most welcome nowadays and THEY are allowed to make as many mistakes as possible.

I don't think it was a pen but I do think that Malouda was just jumping to get out of the way of Finnan who was no where near the ball.

Finnan was indeed a bit rash. Not sure Malouda was guilty of anything - I don't think he was even looking for a pen - just trying to jump over the ball to dummy it for Drogba.

The worst bit of cheating I saw yesterday was Robbie Savage's attempt to win a penalty, by sticking his leg out sideways to kick the defender so he could fall over. I hate that prick.

Styles had one of the worst games I've ever seen a Prem ref have but, then again, we see these sorts of errors occur week in and week out.

Fortunately we have the Review panel to correct errant red cards, but the same refs still persist in getting key decisions wrong with relative impunity.

The problem with the Chelsea penalty is that Styles blew IMMEDIATELY and, once he'd done it, there was no turning back.

The only way around this sort of problem is to have a coaches challenge whereby the incident is referred to the 4th official who would (ideally) be placed in the stands away from the infleuence of the competing benches.

There ARE so many things the FA/Premiership could be doing to improve the standards of officiating. I feel genuinely sorry for liverpool who were robbed of 2 vital points.

Thats the problem, he blew so quickly, what he should have done is allow play to go on and by the time Drogba would have scored or missed he would have had time to think it over and if he still thought it was a pen he could have called it back as advantage, or if Drogba scored there would be no need.

I would not bring in replays for anything other than the goal line, just a better standard of training and more protection for refs at grass roots level.
