It does seem to me that a few seem to forget we fought a long fight ourselves not so long ago for what we thought was right. Obviously the Albion aren't a service as such so we didn't affect the general public that much although we did shut roads for protests and the extra police presence at matches and some of the late Goldstone matches had to be paid for. Plus of course whatever we say the residents of Withdean when we fought to get back there were inconvenienced. That fight mattered to us and we fought for ourselves as well as those down the line who will be able to visit the Amex. Just worth remembering before you instantly condem anyone trying to stand up for their rights or maintain safety etc.
People fought for the Albion because they had, and have, an emotional attachment to the club.

Even Mick Cash has admitted last week that this issue is about "jobs and safety" (note the order in which he listed them), so its not really comparing like with like at all.

Why?

I work in a customer-facing role, if I'm unhappy with something my employers have done I don't take it out on my customers.

So every train manager should up sticks and leave? To a new job? On less money? In the area they've settle or elsewhere? Outside their area of expertise?

And what if they have a point?

Should everyone who is unhappy with their working conditions just move jobs becuase it's REALLY THAT EASY?

Come on. This race to the bottom of worker's rights is NOT helpful.

The travel expert on BBC Breakfast said that Eurostar employ a lot of French & Belgium staff, so there shouldn't be too much disruption from the British strikers, albeit a reduced service.

I think the point of this thread is to goad one poster in particular.

It was more that Ernest was saying that some with links to the RMT were saying that the SASTA strike was ill thought out as it was compromising public support.

This strikes me as more of the same.

If people, in any industry, are THAT unhappy with their work/life balance, they could always try looking for a more suitable job instead of venting their frustration by disrupting people's lives.

And what if they actually LOVE their job but are being asked to work more and more unsociable hours? Leave for some mundane 9-5 job that they actually hate?

Indeed he did!

But, and I'm obviously playing devils advocate here, people who don't understand or didn't support us could have argued-if you're that unhappy about the way your club is run why don't you go and support someone else.

Before this thread descends into predictably entrenched positions (too late?) does any one really understand the specific issues in each of these disputes and how intransigent/reasonable both sides have been?

Saying that it is clear the RMT have an ongoing militant political agenda .. “to work for the supersession of the capitalist system by a socialist order of society.” .. which might suggest these wave of strikes are as much about sending a message to the Government than workers rights or safety.

Surely they will have contracts specifying things like unsociable hours requirements?

If the demands fall outside of those contracts then of course there is an issue to be resolved, but that is one between employee and employer and should not be allowed to have an impact on their customers.

It's about "train managers work-life balance" apparently :nono:

Fair play then. Work-life balance is vitally important; you only have to read this board to see the stressed out, angry and bitter results of people who spend too much time working and commuting. I like to provide a high professional service and I can't do this if I'm continually undermined by ridiculous hours and horrendous commutes. I presume others are the same.

Football doesn't work that way though does it? If Tesco piss you off you can go and shop at ASDA. If Brighton piss you off you can't just go and support Palace; it's like saying that if Muslims don't like their mosque they can go to the local Baptist church instead.

There. For anyone playing NSC bingo that's rail strikers, Palace and Muslims all in one post!

Some goons wear the ridiculous hours they work, or the hours they commute, as a badge of honour though.

6/10, can do better.

Next time, please consider including both estate agents and recruitment consultants.

Indeed, but what should in theory be an hour each way on the train (give or take) over the last six months has been a three act opera and because of the ********ery all round its impacting on peoples work life balance.

I don't regard myself as someone who spends too much time working. I do spend too much time commuting because of the utter cretins we have in charge and the idiots who want to call a five day strike when the passengers (you know those really affected) are pissed about daily!
