Totally unnecessary, why comment?

You may have called this person a friend but he spent a lot of his life on the wrong side off the law. Hopefully none of my friends have swindled OAPs. Totally fair to comment, even though he has died.

We all know what he was. Some people think they gain a certain kudos being associated with a 'character' like that. Whether you like him or not, the World is a better place without these type of people. However, RIP.

He couldn't have been out long. He got four years for the cannabis farm in 2017.

Another local old school knocker boy died fairly recently. Forgotten his first name, possibly Jack. Surname Collins. Always wore a fedora hat and crombie. Had a small shop in Hangleton. Related to Lee Collins another local knocker boy with a chequered (not so distant) past.

Very good point HBZ, he was a character, I was proud to count him as a friend, so as my dear old Mum used to say, re this thread, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

I doubt that you would be lamenting his death if one of your elderly relatives had been conned out of their valuables for a fraction of their true worth. The knocker boys might have been “characters “, but they had no scruples, no morals, and no conscience.
Perhaps you should choose your friends more carefully.

I had weird reminisce of Terry Boyle reading this. Back in the 80s I was living in a small town in the Midlands renting a house from an Irishman. One day when paying my rent he mentioned a burglary at his next door neighbours, where a lot of expensive antiques had been stolen. I frivolously commented that it was probably some knocker boys from Brighton who were the culprits.
A couple of weeks later my landlord rang me to ask how I knew the thieves were from Brighton, as they had indeed arrested two men from Brighton. Later the local paper named one of them as a Terrence Boyle.
I was never sure that my landlord understood how my educated guess that the burglars were from Brighton was completely innocent.

You’re so lucky to have such a wonderful friends group, are the Vienna Boys Choir still touring?

Seriously Clive, none of us are perfect, the man’s dead, frankly you should show a little bit more respect.

It’s just you mentioned no scruples, no morals and no conscience.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, both a quote by Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago and Adam Ant, on Saturday Superstore circa 1982.

We should show him the same respect that he showed society when he was alive (ie. none)

I used to wash his car as a kid when he lived down the road from me in Coldean. His was the first to have a swimming pool in the garden (knowing Coldean, it probably still is!) and my sister and I used to have a great time in it with his kids.

An old school knocker boy, he was constantly 'away' when we were growing up but, as the OP says, he was a huge Albion fan and will be sadly missed.

RIP Terry.

The man led a life of criminality up to the age of 73!
My two convictions for public order offences, committed when I was young and stupid, pale into insignificance against that record.
