R.I.P. Michael.

Where to start? He was our main striker when I started to watch the Albion in the 1982/83 season, a quality player and an important member of that legendary Cup Final side. Who could forget his winner in the semi-final? His 37 goals in the top flight is a record, 11 more than Glenn.

So sad, and only 61. Legend.

What always impressed me was how he seemed to speak Spanish like a native, complete with the right speech inflexions. Someone better versed in the language will probably correct me, but to my ignorant ear it sounded spot on.

Not sure it's true that his father played for us? If it's true I'm surprised I've never heard that before.

I wonder if that's a mistranslation on the article or simply means Michael followed in his father's footsteps and became a professional footballer rather than specifically played for Brighton.

Maybe Tim Carder can clarify this?

Interesting that 5 players on that pitch were involved with the Albion! Pates, Rougvie and Dublin from Chelsea and Robinson and Byrne from QPR!


Regarding Robinson, absolute legend of the highest order and reading twitter is quite emotional. Sense of pride that one of our legends is held in such high esteem by so many others, not just in football and, obviously, not just in this country.

Seems that he was well liked by literally everyone that met him and you can't get a better epitaph than that.

One of my memories of him when I was a young lad at the front of the East stand, was before kick off he would respond to the encouragement of the crowd with a nod and wink in our direction.

There is no record of an Arthur Robinson having made a football league appearance at the excellent Hugman's Footballers website - Barry Hugman's Footballers

I guess it is possible his dad was a pro who never played in a first-team match, or perhaps he was more of a trialist than a contract professional.
