even more sadness is the fact that we wont be able to give him the amex appreciation that he so deserved due to this period of lockdown. i desperately wanted to see him come over for a visit.... the robinsonsgrin lives on...

Gutted, he's probably one of the first things I look at every morning, a terrific footballer and a all round good guy, you will be missed Michael

Depressing day made worse by this sad news. My favourite memory of him was that game against Liverpool at the old Goldstone, when after scoring one he somehow lifted the ball over their goal and it rattled off the top of the goal and away. He turned with a big grin on his face - almost 'catch me if you can'. And that goal at Highbury in the semi against Wednesday. and too many more memories of a fun confident striker. Truly a great goal scorer for Albion and one of the best who played in that team.

Such sad news, Michael was a great player for us and was a really nice guy as well. I met him at The Royal George in Shoreham when several of the first team players were there to promote the Seagull Lottery. Had a quick chat with Michael and Andy Ritchie, lovely lads.
RIP Michael and condolences to his family.

One of my first footballing heroes, a very sad day indeed. Makes me feel very old when my heroes start dropping off and I’m only 51.

RIP Robbo.

Gut wrenchingly sad. Confess to a little moisture around the eyes as I type. Thank you The Guardian for headlining 'former Liverpool and Brighton player'. I too had no idea that his father also played for Albion. And there's this ' asked many years later to describe his proudest moment in football, he maintained: 'Scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final that meant that a bunch of mates at Brighton were going to Wembley in 1983'. I have never forgotten the wonder that my team Brighton, had signed former Manchester City record signing Michael Robinson, who they had signed for £750,00 just 12m previously, a British record fee for a teenager. Just unbelievable.

Very sad news.

I knew he was popular in Spain but hadn't realised what an absolute legend he'd become there.

"The voice of football" is a massive thing to achieve anywhere, but in Spain where they are fooball bonkers, for an Englishman to be bestowed that honour is amazing.

The Spanish articles show what a fantastic life he must have had over there. Cut short way too soon unfortunately, but what a man.

The Souness tribute is very touching. RIP Robbo.

We've had some player deaths over the years but suddenly, as age catches up with us, my generation of players have started to fall.
The news this morning of his passing brought me to tears. I recall him saying in an interview in the 80's how he didn't really like football. Blow me I move to Spain mid 80's and he pops up on TV speaking perfect Spanish and talking football. Of course it wasn't the Preston goal or the Spurs away goal that I first thought of but that pass, that perfect run beating two United players followed by that pass.
Michael, forever in my memory, RIP.

I was thinking about this earlier - but can't remember where this interview was. It wasn't in a programme interview was it? Anyone know? It also got me thinking that Bobby Z also admitted that he didn't particularly like football, and it was just a job to him.

I know it's to be expected the widespread use of 'Liverpool legend' tag in tributes and probably wrong of me to moan about it but stats show he was more a 'Brighton legend' and then definitely a legend in Spain for what he achieved.

In these desperately sad times Michael’s death has really affected me. I knew he was ill but for some strange positive reason I thought he was on the mend - alas, not. As many on here have alluded to Robbo was a 100% all-heart Albion player. The 1982/83 season really brought it home to me what a Brighton legend he was, especially in the Cup, especially the semi-final at Highbury.

R.I.P. Michael.

RIP Michael. Wasn't aware his father also played for Brighton....

Not sure it's true that his father played for us? If it's true I'm surprised I've never heard that before.

I wonder if that's a mistranslation on the article or simply means Michael followed in his father's footsteps and became a professional footballer rather than specifically played for Brighton.

Maybe Tim Carder can clarify this?

OH NO, I have only just seen this I am devastated. Such a lovely bloke and I still have such clear memories of him running towards to North Stand in his very unique stance.

This is terrible news.
