As a young lad I was lucky enough to see Denis Law play and score for United against Spurs at WHL, way back in 1970/71. (God, I'm old...).
A cracking game, on a dog of a pitch, featuring Best. Charlton and Law. Chivers, Beal, Kinnear and Mullery: all later to feature for BHA. United went 0-2 up, only for Spurs to storm back for a 2-2 draw.
Easy to think of Law as a bit of a goal-hanger / poacher, simply lurking in the opposition box but he seemed to pop up all over the pitch - even at LB. Also a lovely moment late on when Spurs had United on the rack and Law had a right go at another United team mate, almost coming to blows - but seconds later Law gave him that trademark cheeky smile and wandered over to shake his hand. Passion and humour, in the heat of the moment.
Just discovered that game was covered by The Big Match and on you tube: (Hope I'm not breaking any NSC rules by posting the link - it's worth a watch).
We were footie mad schoolmates. If the Albion or our local non-league team (Horsham) were not playing at home we'd simply jump on a train and take in a Div 1 game in London. 55k crowd but somehow we just rocked up and got in, no bother - the good old days of PoTG! We hit the jackpot with this Spurs v United game. So many footballing icons of that era.
