John Jackson Palace keeper gave my Father tickets for game against Utd. As a young boy my first viewing of a Div ! game Always remember it because Best Charlton and Law all scored
I've just enjoyed watching Manchester United hammer Palarse at a sunny Selhurst Park with the whole ground admiring their team with polite applause after each goal on YouTube. I could watch that all day.

This is very sad news. A truly great player, a genuine legend and a top man. RIP The Lawman.

A true legend of a player and entertaining pundit on TV and radio in the eighties and nineties.

Still the joint top scorer for Scotland with Dalglish.

Famous urban myth is that. They were down regardless of whether they won that day or not as other results had gone against them.

He was just before my time, so it was always just an oft mentioned name. But it does appear that he would have been in the team alongside Charlton and Best. It's no wonder they lifted the European Cup in the late 60s.

RIP
Would he have known that though when he scored the goal? His reaction suggested he didn't.
He doesn't actually clarify it in this clip but he does reveal that it was his last ever kick of a ball in league football which I wasn't aware of....

Best Charlton and Law

I thought this was about a famous barrister named Charlton who wants to be superior to his relatives.

Just too young to see him play. Remember him as expert pundit with Jimmy Armfield. I think that will have been Radio 2 - prior to Five Live. Proper gent. RIP

Correct.

He did however ‘sub‘ himself immediately that day, and then made the Man City kit man destroy his shirt so it never became a “collectors item” long before it was a thing.

John Vinicombe always reckoned we turned him down as a teenager when he was at Huddersfield because he was ‘no better than what we had’ 🙈
Didn’t know either of those facts….

The sheer horror on his face with that goal though, wasn’t he immediately subbed and then the fans invaded the pitch?

Everyone has summed it up so well.

Great on R5, a true great.

RIP

A great tribute on Football Focus.
The Trinity statue at Old Trafford is already awash with shirts, flowers, wreaths and scarves.
