That's not quite true. Marching against a war against a murdering tyrant doesn't mean that you support that murdering tyrant. That's a distinction that Hitchens and many of the war's supporters didn't understand.
QUOTE]

We'll have to disagree on this then, won't we. But Gwylan, my main argument is about how after Saddam was deposed, the left in the West deserted the causes in Iraq that they should have supported. i.e the emerging trade union and womens movement. The sole reason they didn't support them was because they thought if they did then somehow they'd be supporting Bush -so instead the left prefered the adage: "our enemys enemy is our friend" and subsequently stood idly by whilst any left wing opposition was destroyed religious facsists. But your argument works also works both ways - just because we supported the removal of Saddam doesn't mean we supported Bush. Hitchins (along with the likes of Nick Cohen) legitimised the voice of many on the left who were opposed to fascism and islamic fundamentalism. For that we'll always be grateful.

One less atheist bigot to worry about.

Pathetic. So now he's gone your f*cking hate filled God is gonna deal with him, is he? Funnily enough I re-read Hitchins hatchet job on Mother Theresa only last week. As usual he got her and her useless God down to a tee. Little tip for you Derby Gull, when you die you're gonna nowhere. You'll just be that, dead.

Absolutely. I don't disagree with that, but Hitchens decidedly did support Bush, that's what I was referring to in my original post.

Of course, if you're so confident that God exists you wouldn't "worry about" him at all. But unfortunately religion is a load of nonsense and anyone who speaks about it is someone to worry about for the religious bigots.

Even in his death, he's made you look foolish

Be honest, Hitch made all religious people look foolish every time he spoke. Not hard to do admitedly but he did it damn well.

Be interesting to see whether the same level of respect is paid when a great religious thinker dies (Philip Yancey, for example).

RIP Christopher Hitchens.

For me it will depend on the 'religious thinker'. If it is the likes of Ken Ham, Kent Hovind, Fred Phelps or one of the other hypocritical american style liars for jesus then definately no.

If it is someone like Desmond Tutu or the Archibishop of Canterbury then for me, yes.
