We all know Hoyte will play right back now Calderon injured but dos anyone actually rate him?

Wonder if Virgo hadn't thrown toys out of pram earlier in season saying he only wanted to play centre half now whether he would be better there then Hoyte?

Also personally I think Tunnicliffe could be better at right back and would add bit of height on defending corners/free kicks!

Would personally have El-Abd at right back and put Virgo in the middle with Elphick

Hoyte is gash. I'd play Virgs there or El-Abd...

Hoyte is the best right back at the club regardless of how he is rated by the fans, there is no alternative and it's a good thing he is still here.

I'd give Cook a chance for the last few games - he looked very promising when he came on as sub against Man City last season.
Ideal opportunity to give him a go.
Would rather that than play Hoyte who won't be here next season anyway.....hopefully!

Hoyte, Poyet rates him which is good enough for me

I think you'll find El Abd / Tunni / Virgo / Bennett / Cook / Hart etc etc have all played RB before - not their fav position but remember how well El Abd did left back. Hoyte is completely woeful - that's one thing most fans on here agree on!

It will be Hoyte which is okay because he is a lot better than most on here will give credit for.

However I would have liked to see Cook get a run out or two if he has a chance of a contract.

Yet Gus, the manager, seems to think he is the best alternative, I know who i'll be sticking with...

Another vote for Cook here. When would you try him if not now? Unless he's on his bike next year.

I would give Cook a 20 minute run out, if we have the opportunity. I would also give Mitchell a run out, as long as the defence is having a good day - we don't want his confidence burst behind a leaky defence.

Correct. He has admittedly been fairly poor in his time with us, but nowhere near as bad as some make out.

For some mysterious reason Poyet seems to want to carry on playing Hoyte. I'd much rather see El-Abd or Virgo at RB, hell, I'd rather see Elliott Bennett at RB!

Also I hope Mellotron won't start one of these NSC opinions that seem to spread like wildfire even if they're blatently bollocks (for other example see "Davies will be quality with a good pre-season under his belt" and "Tunnicliffe has been our best defender this season")

I cannot understand why everybody is so against Hoyte. Before Calderon arrived he was the first choice right back and whilst not being the best did not let us down except for one cup game when he had a disastrous game. I think that he will play the remainder of the season but Poyet may try either Cook or even Tunnicliffe at right back.

I would play either Hoyte or even El Abd at right back with Virgo in the middle, but I am not the manager and dont see them in training each day.

I like the bit about Bennett being RB (the rest is balls). I think he would be quality there sort of a lower league Dani Alves, pace to get himself out of trouble while breaking from deep and being good on the overlap and being able to deliver a good ball. Seems to have a good engine on him as well so would be able to cope doing the back and forwards job
