If I can please share my Rick Buckler memory here:

Me and bruv were lucky enough to be in the TOTP studio when The Jam did In The City. Paul Weller's guitar was unplugged, Rick Buckler's cymbal had a plastic cover put on it. Much of the surviving video features my bruv's pogoing head. Rick gave us a cassette copy of the album later in the bar. According to the timeline it wasn't even due to be released til the following day! He'd clearly brought a copy along in case he bumped into any fans. Lovely bloke, open and friendly. Such sad news 😢

Saw them at the Top Rank Brighton 1977, Paul Weller had to keep stopping the set as the punks at the front were spitting at them. Raucous evening. R.I.P.

In the earlier one, was that when 'Jump in Your Datsun' from Littlehampton were the support act?

Remember support acts at the Centre? ;)

I don’t remember specific support bands.
I think I saw The Jags( Back of my Hand) and The Vapours (Turning Japanese) supporting them at some time, can’t remember when, or even if it was the Jam they were supporting.

The joys of an aging memory.

I saw the Vapors supporting them (Brighton Centre). I think that was the 'Setting Sons' tour. The only time I saw The Jags was at the Top Rank with the Piranhas and Woody and the Splinters.

'Jump in Your Datsun' - I have a feeling that a guy from my year at school (St Pauls - Haywards Heath) played drums for them. Either that or my memory is completely screwed.
Very sad news about Rick Buckler, my first ever gig was The Jam at The Dome, probably 1978 'ish, saw them many times afterwards and From The Jam, including the lineup with Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, at the High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells.

The Vapours supported the Jam at the Brighton Center December 79 , was an amazing performance from both bands . Rick always looked dapper , cool and casual and a great musician to boot , very sad news, he certainly won't be forgotten though as his songs will live on

I never saw the Pirahnas, so, it may have been Secret Affair or the Motors I saw the Jags support.

I don’t know for certain if they supported either, it was just about that time though. I definitely saw them support someone, but I used to go to a lot of gigs then.

As an aside, Paul Wellers dad, John, managed the Vapours.

Sad to hear.

Saw them numerous times , especially early in their career when Paul Weller's Dad brought them to a cinema in Western Road for a few Saturdays in a row to hone their act. It started at week 1 with a hundred or so folk there and by the end of week 3 or 4 (I can't remember how many weeks they played every Saturday) it was packed out. Then there was the superb sell out gig at the conference centre in 1977? or whenever. Great three piece bands are few and far between, The Jam was one of them.

The Embassy. I didn't realise they'd played a few gigs there, I only went to one (I'm pretty sure I was with you and Attila) and a massive fight broke out. The old bill turned up to break it all up while The Jam played "There's a riot going on". Those were the days.
