We’ve only ever done one cruise and that was about 18 years ago. As it was for our 25th we went with Cunard. It was pretty good, excellent food, entertainment pretty reasonable, rubbish casino (I only rate it poorly as I didn’t win). Mrs enjoyed the dressing up and her handsome husband (that’s me just for clarity) wearing black tie and dinner suit in the posh restaurant.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say we would never do one again and we did enjoy it overall, but can’t quite work out why some people do cruises so often. Felt a little as being a bit trapped.

Never been on a cruise and I doubt I willl now. I did hire a pedalo on the Isle of Wight many years ago and quite enjoyed that though!😉😁

The only cruise I fancy doing is a Hurtigruten Norwegian Fjords trip.
Has anyone done one of these?

Haha!
I was Block F in the West Stand at the dear old Goldstone. Lovely seat near the halfway line.
Happy days.
Alas went to The Goldstone as a small lad but joined the Army in the 80s, when I came back in the Late 90s I’d lost interest but got a season ticket in the first season at Withdean and have had one ever since, as did my lads when we moved to The Amex.

We went to the Caribbean in February with MSC. I must admit we didn’t like the cruise line that much. I don’t want to sound snooty but we thought them a bit down market. The ship itself was spectacular but I found the food unexciting and the entertainment kind of middle of the road. I was hoping for classes and lectures like you get with many cruise lines (I’m told). Mind you it was relatively inexpensive, so it’s hard to complain. It was our first cruise. We’ll give it another go with another company. It’s fair to say that a lot of people love MSC so maybe it was us. 🙂
Try MSC Yacht Club. Access all the facilities of a big ship, but also have a private lounge, restaurant and deck area. And you are looked after very, very well.

I cruised with Explora last year (MSC’s luxury brand). Ship was very nice, but service and entertainment was no better than Yacht Club, at a much higher price.

Can NSCers recommend their favourite cruise line for slightly posh cruises around Greece and Turkey?

We looked at Yacht Club but it seemed absurdly expensive.

Compared to many other cruise lines, it's absurdly good value for what it is.
Fair enough. Part of our thinking was that on a Caribbean cruise you’re on shore pretty much every day so we wouldn’t have much time to enjoy the luxury of Yacht Club. I think we had only one sea day out of 14 or so days. Might be better value if you’re sailing for several days and can enjoy being pampered a bit more. Not that I enjoy luxury much unless someone else is paying for it!

Slightly off piste . . . .in 1986 we did a cycling tour of Norway . . . Which could be done in car or motorbike etc . . . There are lots of little ferries which criss cross Fjords . . . And you have freedom to explore. . . . Without being stuck in a giant disease can. Stunning place.

Not sure I'll ever cycle up Trollstigen again!

Anyone tried the cruise line Holland America, looking at a South American trip with them.

I have done 2 caribbean cruises, Norwegian and Princess. Loved them both, Princess was a bit more classy but I probably enjoyed Norwegian more. BA lost my luggage for 3 weeks but Princess went above and beyond to help, including free daily laundry when it was nothing to do with them as flight and cruise were booked separate. I definitely rate them both.

A small part of my pension pot, ring fenced, is in crypto, which makes it very interesting at the moment. When I say small I mean 3% before anyone thinks I’m crazy!
