I went for lunch at Palmito a couple of weeks back, I went expecting something amazing based on some of the comments on here and I thought it was a bit of a let down to be honest. Seating was too cramped for my liking and felt almost like we were sharing a table with the couple next to us. The food reminded me a bit of burnt orange but not as nice. I am a vegetarian and maybe the meat options are better but for me it was no more than a 6/10.

I had something from the veg, meat and fish sections and loved it all. Not sure I mentioned the cramped seating in my review on here but I can see why it would put some off. The couple at the table next to me seemed mildly perturbed as I was splashing curry sauce around as I cracked into crab legs

The arse end of Hangleton
The drinks menu looks a tad overpriced?!
As well as very limited (much like the food menu) .... for example no zero % drinks.

Also, what do the coloured dots on the drinks menu mean ? No key. Seems a very badly thought out concept.

We are going to Bill's this saterday after the game. Any reviews (or better recommandations)?

In terms of recommendations, you'll get plenty from the regular posters on this thread I'm sure if you give an idea of the sort of vibe/restaurant/cuisine that you're after. With regard to Bill's specifically, I've eaten there a few times and the food has always been solid and not spectacular. It is a decent choice if you want a quick-ish bite to eat, IMO.

It's solid, but you can do far better and, if you can do far better, why not. If you can expand on what sort of food, atmosphere and price point you're looking at, we can probably point you in the right direction.

Bill's will be ideal. It's a good choice, and nice food, enjoy your trip!

Agree with this given your group dynamic @Wieffergoat

It's a solid all rounder. When I'm out with just my wife it tends to be Japanese or fine dining as this is more to our tastes. However, when the family are out we often look for a grill or a place with a variety of dishes because we'll have my son (18 years old, loves curry and big portions, hates sushi and some vegetables), my daughter (14, loves sushi and loaded fries, hates spicy food, likes the vegetables my son hates) and my wife and I who'll eat anything. If the extended family get involved then you can add brother who is a chef, mum who is slightly mad and step dad who is a diabetic food snob. Our last meal with this cohort was at Rockwater which is a similar compromise food wise with a range of dishes, but more expensive and far out of town. Bills will be as good, cheaper and give you a proper Brighton experience in the walk to and from and the atmosphere.

Petition to save Pasta Brown in Covent Garden:

Pasta Brown in London’s Covent Garden has launched a petition to save the business after being told it must vacate the premises it has called home for the past 50 years. The building is owned by a hotel that occupies the rest of the space and now wants the restaurant for a coffee shop, among other things. Pasta Brown, which also provides meals on a weekly basis for the local homeless, says the end of their lease imperils the livelihoods of the multiple families who work there.

Second go at Mowgli, last visit just after it opened. I liked it before but wasn’t sure it was as good as Chilli Pickle or Curry Leaf at the time.

Absolutely rammed at 5:30 with post work / pre gig & threatre goers. Swerved the Thalis time and went off the menu. Enjoyed everything we had - lamb chops were very good if not a bit small for the price but the potatoes they were with were perfect and had an amazing flavour mixed in.

All the curries were excellent as well as the daal. Beer selection looks to be smaller (bottle of cobra or tiny rebel cans)

Decent

Shame about the demise of Curry Leaf Cafe but Mowgli and Permit Room are decent recent additions that both give Chilli Pickle a run for its money in my opinion.

German curries are pretty lame and nothing like what you have in the U.K. Thanfully, but regretfully only for one weekend, a chef from Manchester is cooking British-Indian style curries so I’m going along to sample. Tight menu of onion bhajies, chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo and a few trimmings like poppadoms and naan. Looking forward to this.

So. The lamb vindaloo was a slight disappointment, not very hot, sauce a bit thin and missing the potato. Rest was good.

I also picked up these sauces

A couple of questions, the first is more pressing.
Might be out for lunch in the centre of town tomorrow. Don't want a roast, but any recommendations for a decent cheapish one? Current favourite is HongKong SuiMei recommended by @CHAPPERS
Second is we're off to Palmito on Thursday (getting a w/e table is quite tricky). Beyond the dishes punted by @Bakero, is there anything else that people have had and really enjoyed?
