going out 2nite for a meal with the lads... we want STEAK!!! where does the best Steak in Brighton? any 'steak house' recomendations? closer to west street the better as the driver is parking there!

I would say the best steak in Brighton is DEFINITELY at Hotel du Vin. You'll pay for it though.

Here's a food question: why, oh why, do people go into Subway when they can walk two doors down Church Rd to Bagelman and buy a similar but much much better and much fresher product? It baffles me. And given I have seen Tommy Elphick in his Albion tracksuit AND Nick Cave in there AND the counter girls are cute and nice and smiley why would you hang out in Subway? Why?

Always wonder the same thing when I go down there!

Spiced Tandori tonight in Hove - great food - extremely reasonable, good service and fab company.

Went home slightly squiffy after a very nice bottle of red at a very nice man's gaff!!!! Lovely to see you xx

Bit late now (sorry) but as someone else said you wanted to find The Coal Shed. Best steak in Brighton and could hardly be nearer West Street.

For reference, Foxy's (just down from the station) does the best steak in Hove. Please don't ask me to choose between the two.

They're both a bit "premium" steak, though -- good meat, well hung (ahem) -- so not cheap. Not expensive either, though, just the usual thing of getting what you pay for, or rather having to pay for what you get.

Not not again, presumably. I'm currently pretty disillusioned with the curry fare on offer for takeaways in Shoreham now, they're all pretty much the same, in fact many of the dishes are pretty much the same too. I know a good Bhuna is something I enjoy and can be done well, but whenever I've had one locally lately, I wouldn't be able to tell it from many other dishes.

just drive along to south street in lancing, pirthi raj,its superb, you can also eat in and bring your own drink, but takeawys are better portions.

This used to be so good ages ago with the best pizzas in existence when the grumpy old sod owned it but has steadily gone downhill since to the point that the Mrs and I will never frequent it again until it has new owners.

Went to Alfresco yesterday evening with a group of people from work. Had the Venison Terrine to start which was very nice followed by their Americano pizza without cheese but topped with a very nice spinatte. Finished with the Chococlate Brownie and had cinnamon ice cream with it. Everyone was happy with their food and, considering there were 13 of us, service was very good (although it must be said, there weren't many others in there). Would definitely go back again.

Have tried to book a table there 3 times, the last being late November. The response each time was no reservations unless more than 6 of you, set eating times and then a set menu offered only. Luckily B&H has plenty of restaurants so will wait until they work out who is providing a service to who!

Interesting, not a patch on the tin drum and far more expensive IMHO.

Kushboo, Albert Road, Horley, best indian restuaraunt ever! even better than the one that used to be in Newick(does anyone know what thats like nowdays not been for years)

I frequent the Newick Village Tandoori on a fairly regular basis and can confirm that it remains a good solid provider of quality curries. It's menu is a little bit stuck in the 90's though and could do with some new dishes IMHO.

Como Restaurant in Ship Street last night.

Busy and small but got a nice table upstairs. Decent looking menu but when the starters turned up they were pretty basic tbh. Worst thing was a main course of Mussells with about a quarter being inedible alongside a very poor looking portion of French Fries. I had a chicken breast in a white wine/mushroom sauce with roasters, wasn't too bad but didn't look too good! Waiters were good but need to stop apologising (except for when one of them tipped a glass of wine over a bloke on the next table).

2 courses, half a litre of house white (which came with half pint Kanterbrau glasses!) and a bottle of Peroni for 47 quid. Average 5/10

Had a meal at the Restaurant in Stanmer House yesterday. Good food., good service , great surroundings. I grew in Coldean and Moulsecoomb and spent a large part of my childhood playing in Stanmer Park, and it's great to see the old house being utilised in this way.
The walk from the car park to the house needs to be better illuminated but as it's been open less than 2 months I'm sure that these things will be sorted in time.
