Wouldn't expect it to be in a contract, just a gentleman's agreement between clubs - if of course it existed at all which is pretty unlikely. I think last time the idea came about because he was completely missing from the squad for our game there with no indication of an injury. But in the end I think he did turn out to be injured and missed a few games
Lets hope that gentlemans agreement doesn't get revealed in that case as it would put us in massive trouble.

Side letters (informal or otherwise) in modern contractual litigation are VERY problematic

There isn't. Such a clause is not allowed when selling/buying players. Mainly to prevent big teams from buying obscene number of players that they can later sell with a "nah, can't play against us"-clause.

No. With Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs out of the cup and City being awful, this is the best chance in like 20 years for a "non-big" team to win the whole thing. This is a chance that no remaining PL team can allow to slip.
These are a good post

Wouldn’t expect it to exist anywhere.

Especially when you add the whole reason we were able to buy him... Newcastle had to have the attitude "please buy our footballer or we're in trouble!"
Don't think they were even in a position to get the sell-on clause they would definitely have asked for otherwise.

Wouldn't mind seeing Rutter rested after being managed a few weeks ago. With Minteh asked to drop back and almost form a 5, Rutter has to cover down our right and does a lot of running. Thought he looked tired in 2nd half.

Rotation amongst the regular starters will probably happen a lot over the remainder of the season including Sunday. But I’d be disappointed if we started some of the more fringe players.

I’d say the starting 11 should come from the following group:

Verbruggen, Lamptey, Veltman, Hinshelwood, JPVH, Webster, Dunk, Estupinan, Baleba, Gomez, Ayari, Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma, Welbeck, Rutter, March.

Sorry old boy, but the respective League Championships in 01,02 and 11, had meaning and huge significance in the clubs history.
Yes of course.

I am sure that Forest think equally fondly about their massively significant:
League Championships 1921-2 and 1997-8

Oh, but hang on.

No, no they don't.

They think fondly about:
The League Championship 1977-8 (the top flight, unlike all the above, theirs and ours)
The FA cup 1958-9. That's a win, not a semi final.
The European cup 1978-9 and 1979-80
And four league cups. They probably can't remember the dates of those, despite the undoubtedly huge significance in their club's history.

My point was not that winning lower league championships was not important to our club.
It is. It is all we have. So far.
My point was that as far as the proper records are concerned,
records listing winners of major trophies,
we have won f*** ALL. f*** all.

And I don't like it

(And please don't come back with 'whatabout the Sussex Senior Cup' )

Definitely not. Mainly for the fact that it's The Cup and it's wide open now that Liverpool, Arse and Chelsea have been dispatched. Also, if we do progress, I think our squad has enough depth to get the 17 points probably required for Europe in the remaining 11 league fixtures. 5 wins and 2 draws will do it.

My instinct is “no” but considering whether to rest players is in my view a bit simplistic.

Yes, we should play our best team, but it’s important to remember we’ve got the biggest squad we’ve ever had. In some ways the question is not “should we rest those that have been starting?” but more “do those that have struggled for minutes need/deserve a chance?”.

Whatever Hurzeler decides, we need to put out a team to win. I don’t think there’s a clear favourite now that Liverpool and Arsenal are out.

Something like…

Verbruggen
Hinshelwood - JPvH - Webster - Pervis
Baleba - Wieffer
Minteh - Georginio - Mitoma
Welbeck

Although I wouldn’t be against starting Mitoma on the bench.. He looked tired yesterday

Rushworth
Cashin
Lamptey
Gomez
Ayari
Gruda
Adingra
O’Riley
Joao Pedro

Two games from Wembley. Play the strongest team, it's not like we've got a midweek fixture before the Fulham game. If it goes pear shaped and we're losing badly then take off some of the key players and rest them. Disingenuous to the fans making the trip not to try and win the game.

There is a week to recover until Fulham and enough of a squad to have options for Sunday at Newcastle so I don't think resting is a worry.

The difference with Newcastle is how they turn up, they were dire on our last visit, watching them in other games with Isak in space and they are unstoppable. I think it's a wonderful test of tactics for Hurz and I hope it's a thoroughly dull game where we manage to frustrate their front line, turn St James' into a morgue atmosphere and nick one on the counter (ideally just before half time) and then turn the second half into an equally uneventful 45 mins with perhaps some subs giving us a few counter attacking moments. I'll take a win with it being the dullest match on earth.

We don't play again until 8th, then 15th and then there's an international break, so there's no real risk of burnout in the squad

Tactical changes only for me
