following the birth of our daughter it's about time that mr and mrs rob get a new car. Anybody got a Renault Scenic? it look as though i can get a used one for a couple of grand and it appears to be a safe family car (gulp!)

any info - pro or con, appreciated.

ta.

An Audi A4 Avant will give you less trouble and hold it's value better and is almost certainly better built and safer. f***ing boring though :)

I had one on hire for a couple of months....absolutely superb car.

Great deal of room.....can swap and change seats....Decent sun roof...superb safety exras and great driving position.

All in all recommended

Yep, I hired one when i toured around scotland. Excellent car, not the fastest but very comfy and user friendly.
Handbrake took a while to get used to though!

The big advantage with people carriers is they're easy to get kids in and out of. You get a good view of the road and white van man is less inclined to try to bully you out of the way. The Scenic's a nice one, but I think the Zafira used to be the one that was recommended.
Main drawback - you look like an old bastard.

I had a Megane on hire in Portugal a couple of years ago - one with those card slot starter jobbies, with a push button ignition. What the bastards didn't tell me was if you had the card ignition thing in the same pocket as your mobile phone, and the phone rings, it bascially re-sets the card, making it useless. You have to take it back to the Renault dealer who re-sets it for you.

Stuck, we were. So we managed to get a complimentary taxi back to Porto airport to pick a new car up, and it was one of those nutjobs who tailgates at 80mph. Faaarkin' hell. The car STANK off gaseous poo when we got out.

we have just had one of our "keys " replaced as the car kept locking and unlocking itself in a sulky french way

BTW did you know on teh Megane, because of the safety stuff, you have to drop the front bumper down to get at the headlights to change the bulb, only you cant and the garage has to do so ...£ 46 for an indicator bulb to be replaced.....THIEVES

At work - probably
Get a Picasso - they are cheaper have loads of storage and the current model hasn't changed so even if you get an older one it's not out of date. Get the 1.8 or the diesel though not the 1.6 - its guttless!

If you are interested in a small MPV then I would look at the new Nissan Note. It has some great reviews and is family friendly, and is made in Britain as well (apart from a few French Renault bits)! They should be doing some good finance deals as it is a new model to get them on the road.

Second hand then I would go for the Vauxhall Meriva or Zafira as you should get good value for money and Network Q cover from Vauxhall dealers.

No it's not...

I've had 2 Megane's. 1 original shape and 1 coupe and both were perfectly reliable.

It's true I work for a breakdown company!

Renault's in general that is though not just the Megane's

just because you have offspring doesn't mean to say you have to become a complete bell end in the motoring stakes does it ?

as long as a baby seat goes in and out easily enough whats wrong with the car you have ? or a decent car you like ?
