Very depressing story tonight on the local news. A 10 year old girl was sent home from school in Gainesville (central Florida) for wearing a t-shirt with the slogan "Islam is the Devil". They had interviews with the girl who says that she will go back to school minus the shirt but will continue to preach that Islam is the devil as it's her "duty to do so".

Personally I'd prosecute the parents for such hateful indoctrination.

Glad I got that off my chest as it temporarily made me pretty angry!

So who's the intolerant bigot here? The girl? The parents? Billy Mays?

You need an answer to that ? Granted it's no worse that what many supporters of Islam say about Christianity. What's a tad ironic is that the girl got sent home given that religion is now banned from American public schools.

Mind you, I wonder what would have been the reaction if the T-Shirt said 'Christianity is the Devil'.

I would like to think that I`m as racially and religiously bigoted as the next man, so what she should have said on her teeshirt is that MOHAMMED is the devil and not just the religion that follows him.

She would have got a better reaction then.

For a 10 year old to be so fervently interested in divisiveness is astonishing.

I think someone on here mentioned, earlier in the week, that in general - religions don't generally preach intolerance. But man will try, and will succeed in finding ways to dislike their fellow man.

Here's an example; you are confined to a small prison where almost everyone is a star-trek fanatic, or collectors of warhammer figures, or enthusiasts for opera.
You like football, and yearn to discuss and share football anecdotes and memories with such a person. Then, a person is put as your cell-mate, and they absolutely LOVE football!
Excellent news, you can while away the days reveling in discussion about those brilliant goals, great players, awful misses, World Cup failures and successes, great moves and tackles......

Turns out though, that it's a palace fan.
So - opera, star-trek, or warhammer fan.
Which do you want to be your next cellmate?

The answer to that is that you obviously plump for the Palace fan to be your cell mate...............................

Then when he is asleep on his first night you suffocate the **** with his pillow.

Or,MOHAMMED is a devil, could have referred to her boyfriend, and been considered a hoot.

goes with the territory I'm afraid.
I like the yanks but they have a terrible intolerance to anything different to their creed and the last few weeks have shown that.
They are not known for their compassion or tolarence

You sure about that?

Certain, I remember when I was living in the Bible Belt people complaining about it. Frankly it's one of the few sound ideas found in the American education system.

Hmmm, personally I'm with the kid, Islam is a devil. Is there a picture of the design? Was it funky? Does she even know what it says? A lot of people buy t shirts for the colour/design which contains slogans or words that they never notice. For a couple of years I was walking around in a funky blue and white number not realising that I was telling the world that I was skint.

I am guessing that the reaction would have been for someone to torch the family home!

IIRC juan is a believer in the space fairy so he will almost certainly think the poor persecuted xian child had every right to insult islam.

But you're not allowed to insult his sky pilot because his make believe friend is real, unlike everyone elses make believe friends.
