I think it was perhaps Maupay getting literally picked up and shoved out the way. The general consensus was - he shouldn’t have been blocking so got what he deserved.

Not exactly like last nights but similar. If Maupay then tackled him like last night I'd chance it would have been a pen!

How did Wissa foul Dunk first? He was marking him, in the usual way that players mark players in the box i.e. a bit 'intimate' and with their arms out, then Dunk slung him out the way. Can anyone find/post a clip of the incident?
Wissa had hold of Dunk's waist and was pulling him back so he couldnt attack the cross. That's a foul. Dunk grabs his shirt and pulls him away but he immediately latches on again and pulls him to the ground. It's a penalty.

I managed to view the link but annoyingly they blur the screen and show text when I try to freeze-frame. I’m now of the view had Dunk been smarter, and got around Wissa without slinging him out the way, we’d have got the penalty. I still cant see much wrong with Wissa’s block to be honest.
Wissa was behind him holding his waist. He wasn't blocking, he was pulling him back. Dunk turned, grabbed his shirt and pulled/thrust him away but he immediately grabbed Dunk by the waist again. It's a penalty (and a yellow card).

One player is trying to get to the ball. The other is purely blocking. In my opinion, a player being prevented from getting to the corner by someone who is only interested in fouling them shouldn't really be penalised for happening to be the stronger of the two.

I admire Madley for sticking to his guns but not as convinced as others that it was a great example.

Wissa was ahead of him, ie closer to the goal, when the corner was taken. Dunk then slung him out the way to get past. Foul. We can argue whether he was illegally blocked or not, I don’t think he was. But Dunk had slung him out the way to get past him…and this is when Wisser grappled and pulled his shirt.

Before Dunk slings Wissa to oneside, he is looking at the ball with Wissa hugging his midrift.

It is a little annoying that this is not seen as a foul but when Dunk then tosses him off, everyone is disgusted.

Wissa is not looking at the ball at all, instead, he is tightly wrapped around Dunk’s middle. I can’t see how any player can expect to do that to Dunk and not get tossed off?

Fair enough. I hadn’t seen a still, I only saw replays without slow mo. That is a foul.

IMHO if anything goes to VAR, and they can't make a decision, instead of it going to the onfield ref, it should be null and void........why should the officials have three bites at the cherry ?

That's not what I saw. Vissa had both arms round Dunk and was pulling him back. Dunk grabbed his shirt and pulled/shoved him out of the way but Vissa grabbed him round the waist again. He was not blocking withhis arms outstretched. He was holding round the waist with both arms.

When your role is, seemingly, to pick holes in refereeing decisions with the aim of intimidating them into making (more) favourable decisions in future matches, it's very difficult to accept that this position should exist.
