Was I right in thinking at one point their goalie just went down when all on his own clutching his face and the ref stopped the game? Why didn’t he book him for simulation?

Wasn't that when he threw the ball out after making the save? Mings was bending over him showing concern as the keeper lay on the ground making out he had some kind of eye injury.

What a game like that highlights is the tools refs are given to enforce the rules and gamesmanship and just woefully limited.

If your only discipline is a yellow card, then it’s not a punishment for a player taking one for their team.

With all the cheating that goes on in football we need an overhaul of the rules to give the referees more tools, whether sin bins, orange cards or other means that is a deterrent to anti-football.
Disagree. Ref's have the tools they are just woefully inadequate at applying them. A yellow for time wasting is ok but it needs to be administered much earlier and that carries with it the possibility of another yellow for the same offence and, ergo, a red.

Ref was shite.

But we were worse and gave him options, like Dunk diving in so their player could swan dive and con the ref and VAR.

Bad day at the office. Next.

(Unfortunately in 6 weeks time)
Sorry are you suggesting that the Dunk foul wasn't actually a penalty? It was a penalty all day long and reckless as player still had plenty to do to score

The **** was laughing as he walked down the tunnel and got booed. I think he thought he had a great game. He was conned by Villa and couldn’t see it
Agree totally......apart from conned and couldn`t see it , my very sceptical head says the **** saw plenty .

Good first half, lost control over it in the second.

Probably one of the most difficult games to ref this season though as Villa wanted to destroy the game. Showed them 6 or 7 yellow cards which is at least better than the 2 or 3 you often see in similar games.
A perfect example for me is the goalie.
Eventually given a yellow for time-wasting sp the takes even longer with the next few kicks as he has already got the yellow. Why not give a 2nd yellow as they would for 2 bad fouls?

There have been loads of stats over the last couple of years showing how Villa are the by far the worst team in the league for time wasting yet referees still don’t really seem to clamp down on it.

Agree completely but every goalkeeper know that it has pretty much never happened that a goalie get a second yellow for time wasting. I've only seen it once and that was when a goalie dragged his injured teammate back on to the pitch to waste some time.

... a move which made the team drop a 2-0 lead to 2-2, resulting in them losing the league title.

Agree it should absolutely happen a lot more often but I think the inconvenience (minutes of protests and then the process of some outfield player putting on the goalie equipment etc) prevents it.

Claiming any kind of head injury is the new timewasting tactic of choice.
Ref has to make a decision they won't be comfortable with, They don't want to be the one that decides to book the genuine case.

It works and is becoming more and more prevalent.

Well, the evidence throughout the game, and I mean across the world would suggest it isn’t - it’s not just the odd poor ref, it’s endemic.

People gladly moan about the refs not doing anything about it but in reality it is the players destroying the game.

Pathetic and not for the first time.
Given it is the supposed best league in the world with an absolute fortune rolling around in it, the levels of officiating are truly awful. The refs seem so weak and scared of their own shadow.

Yes please, sin bins as in rugby 🤞

He did yeah, he has previous for it as well. Trouble is the ref has to ‘believe’ the player, I felt for him a bit tbh, doubt that level of shit housery was covered in ref training. It was a shambles - horrible team full of wankers from McGinn to moaning whinging Buendia. Soon as they went in front I knew what was coming, We were poor though. Can’t blame the ref for us playing badly.

You are absolutely right, but in this top professional sport that inconvenience should not prevent it happening.

i thought the ref was only supposed to stop the game for head injuries so why do they keep blowing up when players feign leg injuries on the floor? If he let play go on they would soon miraculously recover. He could also have nipped the time wasting in the bud much earlier as they were doing it from the first half. A very weak referee who ruined the game as a spectacle for match paying fans with his lack of control of the game.

As for Villa well got their 3 points but Christ how depressing must it be to watch that anti football shit every week, particularly when you think how much money has been pumped into that squad.
