Separate accounts, eh? What are you hiding? :)

Ah, yes. We all choose where we’ll spend our discretionary money

3 accounts. 1 joint, for bills; two separate...

Here
I've just hired a Skoda Fabia for a few weeks in Spain and it's a very impressive small motor. Got a good turn of speed, VW group so reliability should be ok, well made, comfortable, economical, cheapish to buy (I think) therefore 2nd hand prices should be competitive - worth a look.

I was always under the impression that you were minted?

Really?

Anyway, I’ve been tasked with finding a car for her with her money.

It has to be a Polo then

Have a look on Auto Trader with a £2,500 budget. You might find something you thought might be out of reach. At that budget, go for – too an extent – lowest mileage and highest spec. But more specifically, you can't go wrong with a Focus and, as has been said before an Ibiza, Fabia or even a Octavia, if you want something a bit bigger.

I’ve been tasked with finding my partner a cheap run around. Not knowing much about the latest opinions on such matters, I thought I’d ask for suggestions here...

Budget: £2.5k tops.

Requirements:

Cheap to insure for a new driver
High MPG
Cheap to service/repair
Reliable
Small
Min 4 seats (but 2 door is ok)

Any help would be appreciated.

Citreon C1.

Weird that your experience should be so different to mine. Mines a 2009 but has the same engine as yours. You're not 28 stone, I take it?!!

I wouldn't have hesitated to recommend the i10 for what the OP wants.
I have to agree with you. Our 1.2l i10 is very fuel-efficient. I think GT49er must have a dud.

I have a cracking little car for sale, its in Eastbourne.
But am I allowed to try and sell it on here as part of this thread as the OP may be interested.
Private sale, i am not a dealer or anything like that.

Mansfield Woodhouse, actually.

Doesn't meet all your criteria but you could always install 2 blow up seats in the rear. [emoji38]
Or blow-up other things.....

Second hand - VW UP, Skoda Citigo (Mrs T's car).

Avoid ones like this, even if the cost is halved:
