Recommend a decent Sunday lunch in a nice country pub near Brighton

The thread title says it all: where can you get a good (and I mean decent quality food, even if it's a bit pricey - cos I'm posh like that) Sunday lunch, combined with a nice bit of a drive out into the sticks within about 30-45 mins drive or so from Brighton?

If you want a nice restaurant in the countryside, as I mentioned on another thread - Cromwell's at Golding's Barn, south side of Small Dole.
It's very good, and a pleasant setting all round.

Col, it has to be Tottington Manor past the Shepherd & Dog and Royal Oak at the foot of the Downs, great beer garden, great views of the Downs and a lovely restaurant with quality food. You can't go wrong.

It's the Fountain, and a very nice pub it is too.

You could try the Bridge at Houghton, or the Sportsman at Amberley.

Also, the finest pub in all Sussex, The Blue Ship at the Haven, try it, it is sensational.

cheers Phil hate mental blocks

Agree with the bridge too

Good one US, we had our wedding reception at Tottington Manor, but i haven't been there in 10 years, maybe longer. Just looked at their website and think i may book one of their room and meal deals

The Griffin, booking essential (I think)

The White Horse in Steyning, new owners, very good.

The Griffin is great - and the garden is lovely.

The Jolly Sportsman (somewhere North of Lewes - I can drive there but couldn't tell you where it is) always used to be great (with beer in barrels behind the bar). Recently expanded - so not sure if it's as good.
