The thread title says it all: where can you get a good (and I mean decent quality food, even if it's a bit pricey - cos I'm posh like that) Sunday lunch, combined with a nice bit of a drive out into the sticks within about 30-45 mins drive or so from Brighton?

Jolly Sportsman is past its best now. Full of London Jemimas and up itself.

The pub at Warninglid is excellent (25 mins).

The Griffin at Fletching is The Good Pub Guide Sussex Dining pub of the year. It also got 9.5 out of 10 from Matthew Fort in the Guardian Weekend mag recently. Fletching is really out in the country but probably only 40 mins from B via Lewes.
The Fountain is the name of the pub at Ashurst and also very good but not in the same class as The Griffin.

not too far to trek but the little pub in ashurst near steyning I cant remember the pub name though!!

It's the Fountain, and a very nice pub it is too.

You could try the Bridge at Houghton, or the Sportsman at Amberley.

Also, the finest pub in all Sussex, The Blue Ship at the Haven, try it, it is sensational.

The bloke who lives next door to the pub is really helpful as well and will let you park on or across his drive without even having to ask him.
