Nah, you can't punish the fans. How about a modest fine of £10m each? That's £60m, all to be distributed to grass roots projects, or maybe even to help out teams struggling financially in the lower leagues. Just a thought.

10m fine is nothing to them when they are all looking at spending 100s millions in the next transfer window. Gary Neville got it right with 100m which could also be distributed to grass roots and the lower leagues

The simplest solution, in my mind, is declare the whole board of every one of the 12 as unfit to hold the office. All would have till the end of 22 to divest every penny they hold in UK football clubs, stand down from every committee position and face a lifetime ban from ever holding a senior role at any football club again.

A firesale of 6 clubs simultaneously will earn them pence of the pound for their share holdings and make it viable for local Tony Bloom types to buy in to each of the club's.

Obviously UEFA scrap the latest changes to their competitions and all players at the 6 must wear an "Earn It" patch on their shirt for the next 20 years as a constant reminder of what their clubs did.

Nicky Campbell is doing one of his excellent piss taking phone-ins about the future of the game. He mentioned that Sepp Blatter once proposed "that the ball be made 50 cm wider and 50 cm taller to make the game more exciting". Mrs T spat her tea. I'm going to to enjoy listening to the crackpot suggestions of armchair philosophers.

Oh, they are playing the whole of the Henry message. He sounds like a surgeon explaining to a parent that he has just removed their young childs healthy kidney rather than the nonfunctional one he was supposed to remove. Sad and sorry.

I think that’s the minimum we owe the top six. Non-relegation clauses and a minimum of 10% of the profits each will hopefully keep them happy.

Like yourself, I just don’t know how football would work without these legendary clubs, we must keep them happy above all else.

I also think that the CEOs should be given droit de seigneur with season ticket holders' daughters as they come of age. It would be a privilage.

10m pound fine for each club, with the proceeds to go directly down to the lower leagues to alleviate some of the financial pressure due to Covid.

1 season Champions League / UEFA Cup ban.

Arsenal have been in the process of putting this into place since discussions started. Good on them.

Given they have released a statement this morning still pushing for pretty much the same idea but under the banner of UEFA reform I would say a ban from this and next seasons CL competition and a domestic points deduction is the minimum

Most immediate impact won’t necessarily be ‘punishment’ but should be removal of a number of execs from the top 6 clubs from governing bodies within the FA and PL. Would love to see the ‘other 14’ take total control, at least for a time, by ousting all representatives from the big 6 from governance of the bodies (including things like negotiating TV deals etc). Immediately removes their influence on all key decisions. This is going to happen anyway in some cases as people like Woodward step down but make it more comprehensive. In practice, even if they stay I imagine there will be a much, much stronger resolve for the other 14 to stick together in future - there will be some positive benefits coming out of this mess.

This is the way forward, to take control away from them. They have kind of done this themselves a bit with UEFA and FIFA, the fact that some of the 12 were board level and resigned to join the super league. Hopefully they don't get their seats back.

I don't think they should get away with it – it could be the turning point for many fans to bin off their club (I'm talking about attending fans, not the ones in far flung places who Perez and his cronies were going after). I'm not sure what sort of penalty you could pin on the owners, without hampering the fans/players managers. Maybe a huge fine on the owners specifically that goes straight to either: grassroots; other PL clubs; tackling racism or something that would actually do some good, instead of making the rich richer.

But the Premier League as a whole needs looking at, IMO – even before the shitshow that is/was the ESL.

The gap between the it and the rest of the 'footballing pyramid' continues to widen and no-one seems to want to do anything about it. Granted the 'big six' are paying players HUGE amounts of money to players and agents, but #TeamsLikeBrighton are doing the same, relatively speaking. I'm not saying they're completely blameless because it's necessary to keep in touch with the others, but its a means to an end. At some point, the bubble will burst.

I haven't got a clue what the answer is, but I do think they need to take a step back and seriously look at what they are doing (and what the big six HAVE done) to the game.

Change PL rules. A wage/transfer levy structure whereby each club has a pre-set budget. If they spend more than the pre-set limits on wages or transfers, then the levy is applied and the levy rises exponentially. For example each club is allocated £50m per season for player purchases (which can be offset against sales); for every 10% over this, an additional 10% is paid into a "football fund" that is distributed throughout the pyramid. Same for wages, each club is allowed to spend £20m per season in wages, go over that and the levy kicks in.

so those that can afford to can breach the rules? doesnt really address the problem of overspending. only points is likely to make any impact, though open to abuse too.

novel idea, dont allow registration of players after budget exceeded. and bring forward budget reporting to current year, not on HMRC antiquated requirement. league does have a lot of scope to control things like that, which fall under its governance and dont have awkward legal complications (like imposing ownership rules retrospectively)

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
NO ...NO....NO.....all of the Greedy Six are equally culpable. THEY ALL SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE FOR THIS. Pulling out of this quickly earns no brownie points whatsoever. All the representatives of the clubs involved are guilty as charged and no single fan of any of those clubs should sleep peacefully until each and every one of these regimes has changed. That includes Abramovich, the City Arabs, Levy, Kroenke, Henry and the Glazers. None of those can ever talk to the other 14 PL owners, ever again. They have sat round the same table as the other 14 and lied and deceived, for some considerable time. TV last night, showing Bruce Buck on the phone at Stamford Bridge, smiling, was sickening. Get rid....NOW.
The non-greedy have to be united and stand firm against this scum. Refuse to deal with them. Pass their own proposals. Do not attend matches against these six clubs. They have been exposed. They have been flushed out. Their true colours have been shown. They have to be chased out of this country, like rats down a street. I don't care what the likes of Abramovich have done in the past. It doesn't count anymore. Chelsea fans cannot move forward with him and Buck in charge.
This is our chance. The fans chance. They have demonstrated that they don't care about us, so we now need to demonstrate that we are coming after them. No fines. Two seasons out of Europe is a solid start. Minus 12 points each in the 21/22 PL season. 12-24 month transfer embargo.
Lets be honest...Chelsea and City acted last night because they had already had the heads up that they were being replaced in this season's CL Semi's. Same with Arsenal and United in the Europa League. UEFA meant business. No managers or fans are to blame. They were equally kept in the dark. How can Klopp, Guardiola, Ole, Arteta and Tuchel move forward and have absolute confidence in their bosses? Mourinho found out, didn't like and was sacked. Thats how committed Levy was to this. He was prepared to sack his manager 5 days before a Cup Final.
The game is nothing without fans, players and managers and these few, wealthy, arrogant and greedy owners thought they could do this without any consultation. Well, they are finished now and good riddance to them.

You sir are spot on

The rumours, this morning, are that UEFA offered money to the 6 to withdraw from the ESL. Mundo Deportivo.

Hate to say it but I really think it'll be a slap on the wrist in the form of a paltry fine. The backlash might at least mean this sort of idea gets shelved for a fair while.

The majority of fans will soon get distracted by the season's climax and the Euros, and most will move on.

Sorry to be so cynical.

I think a Champions League ban for a couple of seasons would be appropriate and universally supported.

Seems that universal support extends to fans of the clubs involved. It would be crazy to welcome that back without any recourse - the league have shown absolute shock and distain at the "big six" clique's actions throughout the pandemic and this does seem like an excuse for the Premier League to tackle that issue.

I can't see UEFA/FIFA doing anything apart from a few bans from all football activities for the scapegoated (rightfully to some extent) executives like Woodward, Agnelli, Perez, etc.

I disagree. The only way to punish them is financially - this is what it is all about - money.

Therefore, items which should be considered are:
Points deduction.
CL omission for min of 2 years.
Ban on signing players.

(I’m not saying all of the above, but they need to be put in their place). I know this will impact the fans, and the fans aren’t at fault, but, compared to what would have happened if this had succeeded it’s reasonable.
Can't see any punishments myself.

Fines? They'll employ bigger lawyers.
Points deduction/relegation? See above.
Transfer ban? See above.
CL exclusion? See above - although might be the most tenable of the options.
Banning players from international appearances? Again, see above. Of course, the FA could have a word with Southgate not to pick any payers from the Poison Six, and they couldn't do much about it, but it would only really punish the players, who are entirely innocent in this.

The only thing I can think of that might be useful would be for the PL and UEFA to tighten their rules about planning to join rival leagues, with future sanction written in to the rules..

i think yer all getting ahead of yourselves here , knee jerk reactions left ,right and centre , this never had a chance.......so much legal wrangling to be done before an ESL get going , i'd give it 5 years minimum so i suggest you all start making up some whitty, acerbic songs that you can direct at the clubs involved when/if they visit us next season .....which lets face it is an infinitesimally more pressing issue than the ESL which is now dead in the water.....wakey wakey.

I'd like to see Henry and Glazer tarred and feathered.

Just don't see it though.

It smacks a bit of when we had points deducted during the turmoil over the sale of the Goldstone. The punishment hits the fans

Absolutely any punishment meted out to the club will hurt the fans. I can't see a way around that really. The instinct is to punish the individual owners, but there is no way to do that as they've broken no laws etc. You could put pressure on the UK gov to ban them from the country etc, but again I'm not sure there are grounds for it. The only thing is to punish the clubs. But as others have pointed out, this is the worst time to do it as they are hugely suffering financially.

The reality is that none of these six clubs will go bust. If they lose out on Europe money this year and likely next year if they get a decent points deduction, then they will have to refinance or realign their priorities and act accordingly. For most that will really just mean more debt ?

It was widely reported that the teams involved in the ESL had resigned their positions in the ECA (European Clubs Association(?)).
Surely this must have some impact on their participation in next seasons Champions League/Europa League at least?
Or means that they have lost their seat at the table in future negotiations?

Somewhere along the line there must be an impact on the traitor clubs!
