I actually think the Forster statement is very well worded. He has got what he wanted, to highlight to everyone that he only wanted a one year deal and frankly as leading goalscorer he probably deserves one. Everyone is assuming that Forster has somehow backed down. I don't think that's the case at all. I think it is a jointly agreed statement that gets Forster back in the team. He doesn't get his contract, but he has well and truly made a very valid point.

Border country.East Preston.
Those of you that called him every name under the sun, said that you hope he f**ks off, don't need him etc, what are your views now?

Will you no longer support him as a player?
Will you ignore him when he claps the away fans?
Or will you admit you were jumping to conclusions and now look like a bit of a tit?

I'm expecting a big old silence. For the record, I was roughly on the fence throughout, as I didn't feel we knew enough to truly take sides.

Spot on.Without being able to name names there was a definite air of "f*** off then Forster" from the usual hysterical internet gob shites with short memories on here.

Fact is,contract talk should stay off the pitch and he made a valid request to renew his, bearing in mind his age and the El-Abd story.

Reality check by Mr Forster I think. Has just realised that he's 36 at that he's opportunities are very very few. So i better stick to what I have and hopefully they maybe something after I hang my boots up here.

Hats of to Gus...top bit of managing....nobody is bigger than the club and no-one can call the shots except me the manager.........top man...well done

I doubt he will be at the club next season

the ball is in his court. if he's willing to toe the line and possibly a pay cut, i dont think Poyet is going to dismiss a player with NF's record lightly. but i dont think he is a priority either. The thing is, Forster has again made his intent to not travel far clear, so really he has few other options.

I said he can f*** off till he apologises, he has apologised so no longer needs to f*** off, quite simple

perhaps no other clubs showed any interest in Forster, and would be even less likely to give him a year's contract when then know half way into it he's gonna throw his toys out the pram and try and hold the club to ransom.

Forster is probably right that its a bit unfair to not let players know if they're going to be offered a new contact till the last minute. However due to said contracted players (although probably not so much directly Nicky) being such total fuckups in most recent seasons we don't have a clue till May what division we will be in.

That means most players, especially high earners will have to wait to confirm we're still in this division before getting offered contracts. Fair enough really...

Nobody called him a wanker or anything like that, but we were fed up with his uncommitment to getting us out of this relegation battle. Why in the hell did he want a transfer request in the first place, when the transfer window has been shut for three weeks now? Why should he get first priority on a new contract, when the others haven't. It just didn't make sense, I'm so glad its been sorted because we would be relegated without him.

I think Gus did well when he put the ball in Forster's court - he didn't demand an apology. He simply asked for Forster to 'clarify his position' which allowed Forster to make his point and rejoin the team and everyone saves face.

Agreed. Everyone has come out of it (in the end) as well as they could, really.
