Sitting 7th, last 16 of Europa League with next game in March, FA Cup 4th round to come, games we should collect points in during Feb, players to return. It's not bad really.

I can see from a short term perspective 3-4 players could make a difference but where do they fit in the plan and squad dynamic. You don't get great value in Jan, and we've got a lot of players coming back. If you sign a winger what happens when Mitoma and Adingra are fit or a striker cover then Fati is back or an attacking midfielder then Enciso comes back. The manager wants players the club don't want to sign any is two perspectives I don't see a massive issue or not matching ambition.

Sadly I think you have hit the nail on the head. This is exactly my feelings. Seemed very pissed off with the clubs lack of ambition and signings. Strange as TB said there was no ceiling a month ago. However I think TB and PB keep expecting RDZ to produce miracles on a shoestring and unless you invest and spend some money on oven ready players, then you've no chance of Top 4. I fully expect him to leave in the summer which we will regret big time. He is destined for the very Top but with a bit more compromise we could have him for at least a few more years yet
If we have lined up a quality signing we aren’t going to notify other clubs by going in for the player to early in the window. Most clubs around the top seven don’t need to add to much maybe one or two to see the season out. The last two days of the window will be as mad as ever. If Arsenal went for Toney this week the other top four clubs may also react it’s quite a fascinating window.

Regarding RDZ it’s a job for him here highly paid to do what he loves. Less than two years ago he wasn’t employed now he’s achieving in the PL.
Managers don’t just have a hissy fit and leave because the owner didn’t sign one or two more players in January.
There are 20 management jobs in the PL if you are lucky enough to have one you will want to keep it.

It is a shame because in previous seasons we've had succession planning out wide. When LuaLua got injured in 2010, Noone came in January.

When Solly did his cruciate in 2015, Knockaert came in January.

Now Solly is out for the season and Andy Naylor writes for the Athletic this morning that his replacement is...Tariq Lamptey.

Grim.

We have done well to achieve that position, but it's worth acknowledging that we are ahead of Chelsea and United by a single point with Newcastle and Wolves a further 2 behind.
Our next 7 league games will be our easiest run of fixtures for the rest of the season and we are running out of steam.
Running out of steam, they’ve just had 16 days without a match, a week of which was in a holiday resort.
The team last night looked like my team does in the first few days after Xmas.
The winter break is complete bollocks IMO.

...and Ale Mac Allister was carried in the WC and is now being carried by a table topping Liverpool team.
Yawn.

Ask any Liverpool fan. He hasn't quite lived up to expectations yet, however he did have a top game Vs the mighty bmuff.

You still think billy gilmour is crap ?

Is he? Someone should have told the other players because they kept ignoring him when he was in space, ditto Milner, it was doing my head in. JPvH was the worst culprit last night, get your head up man. The team in general looked rusty.

Very much this. A few new signings might be ok for the next 2-3 weeks (except they won’t be PL or De Zerbi ball ready anyway), but within a short space of time we’ll have a Forest-style bloated squad and having to piss off decent players by leaving them out. The over-analysis and conclusion-drawing of a few immediate post match comments following a (probably irritating) defeat from a guy using his weak second language isn’t something overly useful imo.
Probably irritating draw 🙂 I did the same after the Fulham game, kept saying on here we’d lost till it was pointed out to me! These frustrating home draws do feel like defeats, I think partly because we’ve been there so often over the past 3/4 years!

I agree about over analysing the interviews and about the squad. I wouldn’t be concerned if we didn’t sign anyone. However we were linked with right wingers in the summer, even before Solly’s injury, and with his injury as serious as it is and him turning 30 in the summer, I do think that is a position we could or maybe should try and strengthen in as the lack of width is really costing us at the moment and Mitoma, March and Adingra when fit are the only genuine wide attackers we have in the first team anyway.

If the right player is available as always, then hopefully we will bring someone in and that will make RDZ smile a bit more for the
interview analysts! 🙂

Top 7, no chance this season I'm afraid to say, sorry I'm not afraid to say.
Wouldn't it have been easier to delete the four words, than write six more saying they were a mistake?

Without that bit of quality which was missing last night it’s hard to break down these sides that camp in behind the ball. When Wolves broke only one or two went with the runner. They came for a point and got one.

Did we deserve to win? We only had 1 more on target and arguably Wolves chances were closer. Did he say we have no winger and we also have to adapt? Milner did ok on the wing, if only players noticed him there! All said and done we didn't lose didn't conceed and will finish well above Wolves. Not a total disaster moved above Manure.
I just wished we got more players in the box when Milner had the ball wide - he was always forced to play it back, rather than get crosses in. We had to try something different because we could have been there all night trying to poke it through their brick wall.

The dull part of the south coast
Our next lot of games still without some big players and we are going to struggle to win games without that quality that they bring, we are quite predictable and easy to defend against atm. No way we finish above man u, Chelsea for defo and then Newcastle or west ham will be hard also
Lighten up mate and get your half empty glass filled. We have lots to look forward to for the rest of the season so just enjoy the ride.

Sorry how would you describe our last two league performances?
Incisive? Inventive? Dynamic?
Don’t be sorry. I would describe them as against 2 well organised teams that we were not able to break down due to our lack of width caused by injured players most of whom will be shortly returning. Then again I look at the spurs performance without natural width so it’s hard to judge.
What I wouldn’t say say is we are ‘running out of stream’

He is clearly unhappy. But he's toned it down now. Feels like he's resigned to the fact that the club can't match his ambitions. Bit of a shame. Hopefully he gives us a chance in the summer to add some more of the quality he wants. But I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves.
Seemed to be a few talking about this and whom our next manager should be. Is this the Poyet ceiling scenario again

He's unhappy, if he is, i guess because he didn't win the game which he clearly thought was something we deserved (ha - i didn't) . The rest of it - is purely speculation. There is always a desire on here to seek division between "the club" and the manager from the odd quote/demeanor (often miscontrued due to language) press conferrences. There was a similar thread after Spurs when he didn't celebrate the goals like a loon. Not sure why given that Bloom etc are hardly villains and RDZ has praised them to the hilt multiple times. . Of course I wouldn't be suprised if he leaves - most premier league managers leave after a very short period of time but the idea that he's not been backed or supported ? Bloom gave him a (probably) 20+ goal a season striker for millions of pounds in the summer for a club transfer record.

I'd be surprised if we got anyone else in for the first 20 this window.
We're already in the situation where we'll have to leave one or two out of the Europa League squad.
Last night, the only non-regular u21s in the 20 were BBB and Peupion, without Dahoud in it.
And then we've got the following to come into the squad: Igor, Veltman, Mitoma, Adingra, Fati, Enciso, Barco. Potentially March before the end of the season too.
We'll need to leave SIX players out of each match day squad from those listed above or those that made the squad last night (EIGHT if you include BBB and Peupion).
I agree I don’t think we’ll get anyone in this window, but i don’t think squad size is necessarily such an issue as people are making out. Dahoud is clearly on his way out, and I’d be very surprised if Lallana goes beyond the end of this season. Fati will probably go back to Barca/on somewhere else at the end of the season. So there are some spots available. An athletic DM (replacing Dahoud) and a winger (replacing March for now, and then Fati next season) seems like what RDZ probably wants. But availability (at a reasonable price) is probably a bigger stumbling block. Kudus would have been ideal…

this is a team who have lost 2 games in 16.
Palace are a team who have won 2 games in 16. they're the club running out of steam, a manager and fans patience. AGAIN.

I never ever said he was crap. I gave an overall opinion earlier in the season which I stand by, but have since said a number of times his game has grown as the season has progressed but I still think he is suited to certain games…as many players often are. As an aside I thought he was really good last night…as he has been in a number of games.

As for Mac. A former colleague is a season ticket holder at Anfield and he said Mac has done okay and is growing into his role at Anfield.
