Rail News - 2 Fatalities (Purley and Worthing)

Perhaps all platforms could be fitted with body bags so that those wishing to jump could get in one first so that they would not cause so much mess.

Or a couple of pencils and a desk so they can just smash said pencils up their nostrils off the desk, thus eliminating the need to lob themselves in front of a train at all.

How long does it take to scrape it up? It always seems like these delays go on for HOURS.

Depends how far the body has been splattered. The process is stop the job and wait for the paramedics to confirm the person is dead, Then wait for the police to rule out foul play, Then after that it's bag up the body bits and wait for the undertakers to take away whats left of the body. After that there's usualy a bit of hosing down to be done to wash away blood and any other unsavoury bits that are left.

Does the fact that the body has been splattered down the track not confirm this?

You know that and I know that but it's the law, At least it can be done by paramedics these days because there was a time when we had to wait for an on call doctor to pronounce the person as dead.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Here's a money spinner for Southern, why not run a special train on say a bank holiday on an old disused line and call it the Suicide Express, that way none of us 'sane' commuters are inconvenienced by worthless nutjobs whose sole intention is to disrupt our day to day business.

Southern could charge a nominal fee for the jumpers, but a PREMIUM fee for those wanting to watch, film it, then subsequently post the video on You Tube, for which again Southern could claim the royalties then bring out a DVD.

It could even lead in the long run to lower fares if they make enough.

I just think it's all so terribily sad that someone has been so depressed that they have decided that taking their own life in such an awful and public way is a better option than facing up to life's difficulties.

RIP fellow traveller who never got on.

I used to be annoyed with them (delayed late home or to work on trains), but now feel sorry that they felt there was no other way. The real shame is on the people they left behind. It must be terrible having a partner topping themselves, it'd make you wonder what you'd done wrong.

all very sad.

Also very sad that there was a nasty smash on the Steyning bypass this morning.

On a train...
Just In...

Train service between Worthing and Littlehampton are being disrupted due to Emergency Services dealing with an incident. Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays can be expected.

Not sure whats happened here yet.

Part of the problem here is that every incident of this kind requires the Police to regard it as a "Scene of Crime" and shut down the line (both access and power) until they are satisfied that it can be re-opened

Sadly, it would only lead to more delays I'm afraid - the wrong type of BLOOD on the track. :jester:
