It’s pandering to a Radio 2 middle aged, middle of the road, Ford car driving, largely never indulged in class A narcotics demographic, so has to be seen in that context.

In vaguely relayed news, the omission of Hounds of Love from their list is pretty outrageous.

The 80s was the decade that I pretty much stopped buying rock/pop music - looking at that list, I can see why

I find it bizarre when people write stuff like this.

It's not a genuine critique of the quality or evolution of popular music.

I’m learning slowly that late 70s is probably my favourite era for music - a lot of exciting stuff happening in numerous genres then, however there’s a lot I love about the 80s too.

I am stuck in the 60’s and 70’s in most of my musical taste but my 14 year younger brother and my 2 kids, with a 9 year age difference between them have always come up with music from their eras that I end up liking, even if there is some reluctance to take to them immediately.

I do struggle with much of the music post 2000 though Mostly because it’s a rehash of things I thought were better first time around and the warbly up and down the scales male and female stuff that seems de rigueur now annoys my ears.

Summer of 1980 which I remember well! Had started living in the West Mids and with a gf in Birmingham. There was a real buzz about the band. Also the start of the bleak political/social situation and this captured it perfectly - Madam Medusa a case in point + Tyler and the first couple of singles. Great band live too - shame it ended so acrimoniously

I thought of the Police, but their first 2 albums are best and both late 70's

I don't think I have many 80's albums I actually listen too, although 80-82 was great for singles and one hit wonders. Dep S Is Vic there, vapours - Turning Japanese, MArth and the Muffins - Echo beach being good examples.

Regatta de Blanc is my favourite Police album, but you can only beat the team in front of you, in this case the 80's.

After the brilliance of the 1970’s albums, apart from ‘Plants’ at the end of the decade, the genius was back with this in 1980 - another classic imo including the nod to Marley, the MLK tribute and the outstanding melancholy ‘Lately’

Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA. No. The River
U2 The Joshua Tree. No. War or The Unforgettable Fire
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms. Definitely not. Making Movies.

Bleach by Nirvana was also released in the 80's but I'm not sure it's top ten worthy.

Edit: Forgot Marvin Gaye! his final, and biggest selling, album containing sexual healing was released in 82.
