Not usually one to play the racism card, but can see why many think this can be deemed racist, and for Italian paper to print this before they play Germany is well insane.

Don't think it's necessarily racist.....it's just very ill judged. There was always going to be someone who said it was racist.

What I find offensive as a non racist is that people think that anything to do with apes/monkeys and black people automatically is racist. I don't think that black people look at all like any kind of animal, let alone apes. If you think something like that is racist then somewhere in the back of your mind you are acknowledging that you think that it's too near to reality. On comedy shows there are often jokes about Wayne Rooney looking like a chimpanzee, I don't find that funny, it's a very weak form of humour but nobody complains that it's racist, are white people less like apes than black people? The answer is no. When thuggish so called fans make monkey noises at black players they are being racist because that is what they are: Racist but not because they are accurate. I agree with albion534, Balotelli crushing England.

Very silly thing to draw and publish given the hysteria around the tournament and the disgraceful banana incidents during the tournament, however, I think Marxo has hit it spot on, it shouldn't be branded racist just because it's him as an ape - people have become slightly over sensitive in recent times. However, even if not intended to be racist, it would obviously be construed as such so just insane to publish it.

It's portraying Balotelli as a monkey - come on, who wouldn't see that as racist? If it's that innocent, can you imagine them using the same picture with a white player in it?

I didn't see it as that?

As someone said above, if it was Buffon up there, would you deem it racist?

I personally think people are blowing it way out of proportion!

They wouldn't though as it wouldn't have the same effect

Then I think you are being incredibly naive. It's an iconic image of a monkey. (primate really) Italy is a notoriously racists country, I'm no Sigmund Freud but I would bet this is where some of Ballotell rage comes from. Growing up as a black man in Italy can't be easy and opposing that having a skill that makes him highly prized, strong mix.

Not racist, just because its a monkey and Balotelli is black - it doesnt mean they are purposely being racist. Although they maybe should of picked another player.

I genuinely can't see how this shows 'Balotelli crushing England'. Is this not the scene where King Kong was shot down and killed? Also, Balotelli didn't crush England.

If it's not racist I can't really see what it is trying to say ???
