that is a pathetic reply to a rather astute statement........the fact is that there is now a large contingent of "foreigners" in the press in the U.K . and they appear to have carte blanche to write just about whatever they like without fear of censorship , that is the short coming of a true democracy , let the right wing contingent or anyone with a nationalist lilt spruik up however and , well , hell hath no fury and all that.

Oh **** off.

Trust the Guardian not to link the survey, I guess it's easier to report that way. http://www.natcen.ac.uk/media/338770/selfreported-racial-prejudice-datafinal.pdf

Here's the actual report, you'll immediately spot the first graph shows on average, prejudice has fallen. Whilst the spike is worrying, this must be attributed to the rise of UKIP as opposed to people just genuinely becoming more racist. As others have pointed out, Guardian have just compared this to the lowest point in the past 10 years, rather than since the survey begun. As a whole, the UK is less racist than it was pre-2000, but don't let the Guardian tell you otherwise.

Essentially someone in the Guardian's office with access to the SPSS data produced by BSA has sprung up their own graphs, which I find worrying. Because graphs like this:
Racial_Map_2805.svg
Are very misleading, the only source the BSA but not what year. As the BSA 2013 report doesn't give a historical average, only a percentage neither does it give you a sample population. Sample population is vital in validity of data sets and whether it's reliable or not is a completely different question.

I could go on and on about the reliability of BSA as only 2 weeks ago I handed in a 2500 word report on quantitative data with my own research, some referencing the BSA itself...

Further to Guy Fawkes questions...

I wonder how much of this is related to the attitude of people about "Political Correctness gone mad", people who don't really understand what political correctness is, and not really caring. The person who will say something and follow it up with "it may not be PC, but that's what I feel..." or start with "I know I shouldn't say it, what with PC and all, but..." when really, all they are saying is something mean or simply unpopular, rather than anything that would actually be addressed by "political correctness".

I wonder how it is measured. There is this opinion piece from the Guardian recently, which highlights how up in arms everyone gets with some old white man using the n-word, but ignore more institutionalised racism. While looking things up for another thread I found studies showing that there are biases in Juries making them more likely to find someone from a minority guilty than they are a white national, that someone from a minority is more likely to be arrested than a white person, that in america there are drug laws that give crack cocaine (users predominantly black) a mandatory prison sentence and give powdered cocaine (users predominantly white) non-custodial sentences. These sorts of things aren't measured by people admitting to having racist tendencies or having expressed some form of racism at some point.

Sadly you show a clear lack of knowledge at how your government works, like I said the home office "commissioned"

It is very much like talking to a young child, I think if given the chance you would argue with yourself

Wake up. You have mixed me up with Keaton.

'Over sensitive for fear of offending so unable to openly debate or discus certain subjects.

That is also a problem.

"British Social Attitudes survey finds proportion of people in the UK who say they are racially prejudiced has risen since 2001"

"The proportion of Britons who admit to being racially prejudiced has risen since the start of the millennium, raising concerns that growing hostility to immigrants and widespread Islamophobia have set community relations back 20 years."

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/may/27/-sp-racism-on-rise-in-britain

No it`s not ,Nationalism is though, there is a massive difference between the 2

Who told you that and why did you believe them?

what on earth are you blithering about?

any one who bangs on about 'PC' just wants to be able to continue to offend people. These are the kind of people who, if listened to, would still be flinging bananas at John Barnes. Thank the lord for progress

I know what your trying to say, people should only be allowed to talk openly about topics someone with low a low iq and very narrow mind can understand

Three word sentences for the pc brigade, more than that and they struggle to understand

You are incapable of differentiating beetween a home office commissioned survey, hate crime laws and your imagination.

These are facts, just go along with them

They are not "mine" they are a home office commissioned it is pretty self explanatory

QUOTE=Baldseagull;6374361]if you are BME person, you are more likely to experience a racist assault than if you are White.
Mate, stop arguing with facts. It's silly

QUOTE=Baldseagull;6374361]if we got into a scrap over a parking space and I called you a stupid Mick, or you called me an English ******* during the argument, it could be recorded as a racially motivated assault.
If anyone calls me a thick Irish **** in jest it doesn't bother me, I was raised to know the difference between sticks stones and names.

The facts speak for themselves, maybe a trip to one of England's screwed up multicultural cities and towns is in order for some people, spend a few months there. I used to live in one.[/QUOTE]

You are incapable of differentiating between totals and percentages. The facts should speak for themselves, but it seems you dont speak their language too well, as you are misinterpreting them.

Yes, there are more racial attacks on White persons than on BME persons in TOTAL, but YOUR figure of there being 8.5 times as many white people as BME people in Britain means that if racial assaults were evenly experienced, there would be 8.5 times as many racial assaults on White people than on BME people, there is less than 2 times according to the numbers you provided, so a BME person IS more likely to be a victim than a white person.

It doesn't matter whether you have a thick enough skin to not be bothered by name calling, if a witness tells a police officer that they heard one party use any term that referred to the others ethnicity it would be added to the statistics as a racially motivated or racially aggravated assault.

Personally I don't care what you do or what you think, I'm not far left or far right

i.e become all right wing
What is it that you think you are lol?

well that s not gonna happen
Even if it did happen, would you even notice?

happy to debate with right wing nut jobs though but not clear what it is you are taking issue with
Don't think you understand what a debate is

I was more intrigued by the point about keeping thieves, rapists and spongers out.

How does that work then? Do we stop every non-UK passport holder at the border (thereby contravening free movement within the EU rules in many cases) and ask them whether they're planning to steal anything, rape anyone or claim state benefits while they're here?

Seems pretty foolproof.

What an marvellous idea that free movement of people throughout the EU was eh?

Heaven forbid we should maintain any kind of visa system to prevent the likes of Victor and his ilk rocking up in the UK without a by-your-leave..........

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...ild-rapist-Victor-Akulic-allowed-into-UK.html

Hard to conceive just how other countries economies can survive let alone prosper when they are restricting access to convicted criminals or at least asking for their disclosure beforehand................economic minnows like the US, Australia and China.

You can't even get in Iraq without having a blood test to check you don’t have AIDS or hepatitus.................now which system is more foolproof?

Fergus I think the whole mental mind frame of a liberal lefty or fascist is to import pedos rapists, invade Muslim countries, arm and train terrorists while silencing debate or criticism of state policy at home

We don't need common sense in politics that would be racist
