If cars were banned how could one get from the seafront out of Brighton? Perhaps more importantly how can one then travel from East to West unless going along the seafront or Preston Drove?

Up Lewes Rd and cut across at The Level to Ditchling Rd if south to North or from West to East and East to West from Old Shoreham Rd across London Rd at Preston Circus and vice versa

Isn't there a plan to ban northbound traffic from York Place/St George's Place, which would create a large open area with an historic church in the middle at the bottom of Trafalgar Street? It could be fantastic and would spur the further regeneration of London Rd and the areas either side.

You are talking about this:

I believe that the plan to hardscape the road in front of the King and Queen to form a square has been changed; with the road now planned to follow its current path.

Surely the answer is to ban all vehicles except buses and taxis from 9.00am to 7.00pm. Delivery vehicles would then have to arrange deliveries outside of those hours and it will stop inconsiderate van drivers abandoning their:ohmy: vans on bus stops to go to Forfars or Greigs or even the 99p shop. There never seems to be any police or traffic wardens about when this happens.

Or, we could do away with the notion of cars being 'banned', especially as no-one is considering it.

This is too logical an answer and simple to implement so wouldnt expect the greens to work it out.

Endless possibilities.

Lewes road for the a27 eastbound
Dyke road avenue for the a23/m23 northbound
Dyke road avenue for the a27 westbound.
Or alternatively you could divert up Ditchling Road to get back on the London Road onto the a23/27, or down Millers Road onto London Road,.....and so many other possible roads.

So if you live in the Elm Grove area your endless possibilities means you have to basically drive out to Coldean to go East or West.
Of course, all traffic out of Brighton should go along Dyke Road and probably spend an hour to get out at the A27 end. Unfortunately te London Road should be used as the road to London.

Most of the permanent stalls have been taken up and those traders in there at present are the few that continued to trade whilst the building work took place. The project was started some 10 years ago and is nearly complete. Above the ground floor are some artisan workshops and the rest of the above are flats. The 45 permanent stalls will be enhanced by daily stalls of mixed goods and anyone can apply to trade. At present it does look a bit sparse but that will all change soon. Any profits made by the Open Market CIC will be used to the benefit of the local community. There will be a program of entertainment and art related things going on and it may be possible to have events on Sunday's. There is a web site for Brighton Open Market with more info.

In more fairness, there's absolutely no reason why it SHOULD be the London Road in this day and age. Send the fu*kers the long way round. Reclaim the streets as it were. No way should priority be given to private motorists roaring through a local main thoroughfare while shoppers who may be actually contributing something to the local economy are restricted to being kettled along narrow pavements or made to wait far longer than is reasonable just to cross from one side of the road to the other. Its a scene repeated all over Brighton and its all a bit shit really.

Where's the best place to park around there?

I really don't see the point of abusive responses, why even bother.
I think that the place is old and decrepit, it needs totally rebuilding.
Start from the ground up and do it properly.
That is my opinion, like it or not.
It's funny how brave people can be when not meeting face to face, could be a different story then, so instead you resort to pathetic name calling, just grow up.
Yes, there is such a thing as an old fool.

I was told (albeit a few months back) that co-op were looking to move back to their original premises underneath the student flats with the current co-op & boots being demolished for a new city coach station. Anybody else hear that?
