that seems to have more of an effect on Portland Road from what I can see. You're right though, Boundary Rd should be a lot nicer (it does have the odd gem to be fair) as the area around it is actually fairly well off- including that part of Portslade which is becoming more expensive to live in.

The Boundary Rd battle is being fought around FOOD. There are a couple of complete gems that have opened up recently. Oo-My does excellent Japanese takeaway and gives sushi making lessons while the brand new CouCou foods has a proper pizza oven, delicious takeaway food, wooden benches, house music and copies of The Economist lying about. On the other hand a new Chicken Cottage has opened up and the pubs are worse than dire. Not sure what the closure of the charity shop for donkeys in the Holy Land says about the area mind.

in fairness it is the LONDON Road.

In more fairness, there's absolutely no reason why it SHOULD be the London Road in this day and age. Send the fu*kers the long way round. Reclaim the streets as it were. No way should priority be given to private motorists roaring through a local main thoroughfare while shoppers who may be actually contributing something to the local economy are restricted to being kettled along narrow pavements or made to wait far longer than is reasonable just to cross from one side of the road to the other. Its a scene repeated all over Brighton and its all a bit shit really.

Although I do agree with Tom Hark, Preston Park, I do have one proviso. That Buses and Taxis still have thoroughfare within London Road. From my own personal experience, albeit in Dover. Biggin Street, and the Market Square, were busy, thriving, shopping areas, with a buzz and vitality about them. Since full pedestrianisation, the area has slowly died. Now if this is due to the downturn in the area since the 1980's or "Business Park Shopping," I don't really know. But i'm pretty certain traders in George Street, Hove, would say something on the same level.

Yep, years ago they pedestrianised part of Baker Street. It was not a success.

Surely the answer is to ban all vehicles except buses and taxis from 9.00am to 7.00pm. Delivery vehicles would then have to arrange deliveries outside of those hours and it will stop inconsiderate van drivers abandoning their vans on bus stops to go to Forfars or Greigs or even the 99p shop. There never seems to be any police or traffic wardens about when this happens.

Doesn't look the most salbrious place at the moment, but ought to be better by the time all the units are open and the place is full.

I see the opening date has been put back to May, was supposed to be this month, perhaps thats why they are allowing new tenants to trade already.

A long way off the original plans but hopefully it will be a success and all the workshops and units will be used, I see you can rent pop up stalls even for the day, how about an Albion Roar outside broadcast on the opening day with the Albion mobile shop.

I haven't - still a hard hat area.

But it is pretty much all of the area the old market took up. The units go back another ten feet or so from the 'garage' doors. The bits above the units appear to be office spaces.

The bottom picture was taken from about ten feet away from where the red plastic barriers in the top picture are.
