Dunk and Pedro haven’t played 90 minutes since May have they ? And not in pre season yet. ( Pedro started last week maybe).
Can’t see either starting at Everton.

We need Dunk to start from a organisation perspective alone.

I think it’s going to take time for Hurzeler to work out his best team…seems to me that one of the key lessons from last season is that we needed a bigger squad (given the injuries). And the number of quality youngsters means the playing squad is going to be materially bigger than last season. Obviously a few will probably leave (permanent or loans)….but I can see a really strong bench this season, which will help our energetic style, and hopefully mitigate against the risks of multiple injuries.

Be interesting how we get on against Villarreal with that tactic.

QPR were poor, every time the had the opportunity to work the ball around us, they overhit the pass. Their movement was abysmal, and they’re one week ahead of us. Their forwards were cumbersome, defence were very ponderous.

BTW Cozier-Duberry’s touch when he pulled the crossfield pass down, was moment of the match for me. That was brilliant……

Agree….they simply couldn’t get out, either wide or through the middle.

I think from Fab’s comments afterwards that he was focusing on our pressing and keeping a clean sheet. Friendlies are exactly for this type of work. In the first half QPR could barely get out of their own half.

Eh? Pedro wasn't on the Japan tour. He only returned to training a few days ago. Hasn't played a minute yet in pre-season.

Players are never going to give 100% in a training game, we see it every season come Everton it will be totally different. The season we went up to the PL we got smashed in almost every pre season game it gives zero indication of how the season will play out.

Ah new here. You'll find 'Juries Out' and 'Get Rid' posts after one meaningless friendly. Wait until we get a couple of losses and draws, then you'll see them ramp up.

Don’t think any of our outfield players have played 90 mins since May.

I doubt Dunk will need much of a traditional pre season, he trained with England all summer and would have been ready to go for 90 mins if needed.

He’s just spend the last week in Dubai doing fitness work with Elite Sports Performance who specialise in off season fitness. I don’t see much reason he won’t be ready to go for Everton.

So this close season we've had the Euros, Copa America and Olympics with a squad that has developed over the last few years to include more internationals away and late back, so what are you comparing this year with?

Last year I watched a rather uninspiring 1-1 draw with Rayo Valacano as our last pre season friendly really not expecting how we came out of the traps in the PL!!

By all means get hung up on pre season performances, personally I wouldn't....

If this was a cup game, I think we would all be fairly satisfied with the result. No reason to feel any different now, plus most of the squad got some valuable game time.

Watched 1st 60 mins before going to a birthday bash. Looked OK against opposition who start next week so perhaps more match ready than us! Its a friendly and all about getting fitness and trying formations with a new boss, new players and new learning tactics.
