Yes i know i looked it up , but still struggle to see how a 1000 year old inaccurate childlike costume compares to what they are doing as i type this to you , perhaps you could quantify the difference between their hurt feelings and the actual DEATHS of those that have and continue to suffer - no biggy take your time :)
Their country, their rules. Nobody said it was right.

Presumably the knight/crusader fancy dress is connected with St George. Interest in patron saints is a bit too Catholic for a country that has a protestant church named after itself and he wasn't even English anyway. Instead, our fans should be adopting costumes that better reflect England and Englishness as viewed by the rest of the world. Unfortunately this means that we either turn up in pinstripes and bowlers, carrying umbrellas, or we adopt the dress that a third of the globe has most often seen Englishmen in: Dress uniforms, carrying rifles with fixed bayonets.

I'd like to see them dressed as Morris men with jingle bells on their legs. It would make some noise.

Edit to add, we should only have one lion on the coat of arms nowadays as the King of England is no longer Duke of Normandy nor Aquitane.

Although why anyone would want to go to a football match dressed like a pillock is beyond me.

Very much agree! ^^

One the wider point, the more I think about this the more I just think f**k 'em! I hope the homophobic, racist, backwards, murdering tossers DO get offended by people drinking a few beers, a rainbow flag and some daft fancy dress :drink: 🏳️‍🌈 :tosser:

Quick edit, just read @Deportivo Seagull post below, a very fair assessment.

So we get crap over a sudo incorrect fancy dress fun football get up because it resembles a 1000 year old uniform , so we are the bad guys . They have atrocious current / ongoing Human Rights issues against thousands as we speak , and you agree with their hurt feelings :wrong:
FFS. Qatar shouldn‘t have the World Cup. End off. If they can’t accept basic human rights then they shouldn’t have even been considered, let alone award the poxy thing.

However, as someone who has travelled in the region, crusade and crusaders are still very much front a Thing. To them the crusades were still happening when we were nicking the oil in the first half of the 20th century which is less than 100 years ago. To you it’s a 1000 years ago, to them it’s much more recent.

As English men that seems weird but as we haven’t been invaded for the last 1000 years so there isn’t anything that would piss us off.

To the guy on the street the garb is almost the same as Knights Templar .
The Knights Templar apart from introducing the concept of modern banking also liked to spend a disproportionate amount of their time filling in the saracens during the crusades. Not being able to see the link between the two doesn’t bode well for the UK’s educational system.

Wow that`s lame , but everybody should be saying it`s wrong - yes ?
Isn't like almost everybody saying it is wrong?

While I hope Qatar changes their ideals to a more inclusive and tolerant attitude, its hard to demand it. "We do like this in the West, so you guys must do this as well" is not the way to go. We would never accept the opposite; Qatarians or Saudis or Chinese coming to Europe and demaning that we change our rules and attitudes to how they do it at home. So why should they accept the opposite?

Change may come, most likely it will in due time, but the problem isn't really Qatari rules as they have to decide for themselves how they want to run their country. No, the problem is putting a World Cup in a country where some 10-20% of all people are going to feel alienated and threatened if they participate in what should be an all-including football tournament.

St George has been highlighted in many Moslem text as a martyr and a hero.
Richard 3rd however was French.

I was going to just say that up till about 20 - 25 years ago most England fans used the Union flag with their towns/cities/clubs on , and as such we are probably going to also see an overhaul on what the new "thing" for English fans will be in the near future ( probably hastened by these events ) . But you should not knock our armed forces , especially in November . Besides you don`t fight in Dress Uniforms , seriously having a pop at our forces is bang out of order .

In fact go read some f***ing history , it will tell you why you are able to talk so freely on a site like this . There is not a single country on planet earth that doesn`t have a piece of it`s history they wouldn`t change given the chance , overall we have done far more good in this world than harm .

It's not like they're protesting against the Qatari regime though is it?

They're wearing something that could be v offensive to ordinary citizens and visitors.

...is sometimes what English people think. I'm not sure that the majority of the world agrees but all depends on defintions and perspectives, I suppose.

This is the key issue. The World Cup / Olympics should be the chance for a nation to invite the world's people to be it's guests. Guests should of course be polite and considerate to their hosts, but there is no point inviting people if you are not going to make efforts to make everybody feel welcome. However, it is difficult to allow freedoms to your guests that are not available to your people. It can lead to difficult questions after they leave. Perhaps what the Qataris will have learned from this will be that sportswashing is very straightforward if it is based upon money being exported to places where you would like to win friends, its less straightforward if you are asking them back to yours and showing them how you carry on at home.

You maybe need to have a lie down or lay off the internet for a bit.

Unfortunately I think it is more likely that this World Cup is setting things back a bit.

The tournament is an intiative taken by a handful of people from the Qatari elite. The people generally don't like football, the natives Qataris are mainly into traditional Arabic sports like falconry and camel racing (and increasingly also normal racing). Football - definitely not.

To a lot of them, Khalifa Al Thani is a very liberal - too liberal - man wasting time and money on a tournament they don't and inviting a bunch of Western people they don't really want to come. This is pretty much Western culture and Western attitudes being enforced on them, and I think there could be a backlash from that. Generally speaking the countries in these regions are moving towards more Western attitudes and it is happening somewhat "naturally". Their big boss now telling them "I'm inviting this shitty sport and these weird people and you'll just have to accept it" could disrupt that development.

Richard 3rd was of the house of York. Suspected of killing the Princes in the Tower, and lost to Henry Tudor.

I believe you meant Richard 1st. ;)
