Shall we change our name from Brighton & Hove Albion - to say, The Hi-Fi All-Stars - because sounds a bit dated? It is, after all, even older than Good Old Sussex By The Sea?

No offence, Mr I, but I'm afraid that kind of question stirs that kind of response in me. If there was a stronger, more definitive word than 'NO', I would use it.

I love GOSBTS and it will always be our tune, but I can see a point with changing the tune we run out to. For Albion fans, GOSBTS would fire us up, but not sure about the players.

Give it a try out as GOSBTS doesn't lend itself well to remixes etc, and anyway, sound plain wrong when attempted.

Either try a new tune to come out to, and play GOSBTS just before, or at least get a new recording of it done, 'cause the one that is played at Withers is worse than some of my old 33's.......

Perhaps rather than remixing it, a totally new version, not a brass band but modern music version, and not some naff techno computer-synth nonsense, a genuine re-recording by a band. Loud and a bit exciting and intimidating :guitar:punk:

i agree with the majority of the posts, however ... that put your hands up for brighton is pretty famous these days, people always ask me about it and there should be a space for it ... maybe the song before GOSBTS, or we play it after the final whistle - if we win!

i'd rather have that than chelsea dagger or carnival de paris, i hate that stuff, it's madejski stadium stuff.

For starters did FBS actually do that rework of Freddie le grand's tune? All they've done is change the vocal and and a few crappy samples over the top. Surely a man of FBS' talents can do better than that.

Next point, in 3 years time when house music has moved away from the current electro sound, that track will sound very, very dated.

that version if put your hands up was novel (at best) when fatboy played it in the beach. That was whn that song was big. Now no one likes it, and I personally think it's f***ing embarassing.

Or, with any luck, house music will sound very, very dated full stop :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Any other old codger remember when Mike Bamber replaced GOSBTS back in the 70s? He thought anything played by a brass band was too old-fashioned so he replaced it with some God-awful tune that was VERY 1970s; very 'in', very 'with-it'.

It was a short-lived experiment as the team would run out to a chorus of boos! (The reverse of today when they leave the pitch to a chorus of boos - Wednesday excepted).

I HATE 'Put Your Hand Up for Brighton', in fact I can't believe anyone likes it. Even if you liked the original one about Detroit, the way FS replaced it with Brighton is horrible. GOSBTS is timeless, every other club have some shit like 'Who Let the Dogs Out' or 'Chelsea Dagger' but we've got something our own and unique.

GOSBTS should never be replaced it is synonomous with BHA. There are a few good versions about like the Royal Marines, Grenadier Guards and the Massed Band of the Brigade of Guards. Ther are not many brass bands down this way now. Haywards Heath Silver Band is no longer and I sent an E mail to Burgess Hill Band suggesting they ask to play at Withdean and perhaps have a collection to help their funds at 1 game but got no response perhaps they were not interested or wanted to charge a fee. Christ Hospital Band played there and that was very good.

Agreed, I LOVE brass bands at football, we should have more of them.

No no a thousand times no!

When I was walking up and down the acadmic corridor singing GOSBTS eveyone knew what I was reffing to. It would have meant nothin if they thought I was sınging just another radio song.

I'd like something to be done to it (only because the current recorded version sounds terrible and tinny'). I like the idea of making it intimidating, exciting wouldn't hurt either. One thing's for sure, it should never be replaced with a 'pop song'. I'm sure there is a local band somewhere who'd record a version (so long as they keep faithful to the original) for next to sod all because they'd know they'd be heard by thousands at every home game long after their fame fades.
