I was in The Warwick Worthing with my sons after a family meal last night and it made me realise how glad I am that I no longer have a pub.

I have always laughed at my son who said he cant go out for a night and spend less than £100 but a round of drinks for 8 cost £28.30 so I can where he is coming from. He said the best pub in Worthing and probably the most expensive is the Rose and Crown, I like the Hare & Hounds because of the real ale. What do others think?

I like the Hare and Hounds aswell that and the Wheatsheaf are the only two pubs i frequent now when back in Worthing or possibly Barneys also.

The Rose and Crown is ok but as you say costly.

My Local in Huddersfield is a pub called the Fountain and a pint is only £2.10 mainly due to the fact it's a free house and the brewery aren'y making the land lords rip people off.

Sorry... but unless he is buying more drinks than other people... at £3 a pint... £100 would buy 20 pints plus a decent curry and a taxi home.

Thanks Greens :(
I was in The Warwick a few months ago and it was full of chavs looking for trouble, and that seemed to be the norm in all the town centre bars, like West Street in Brighton...

I'll stick to my half of mild on a Sunday lunch ta

Last night there was 8 in our company 4 of whom are women who are not expected to buy drinks so it is 4 rounds bought x 4 which is only 16 drinks for a whole night less than 1/2 bottle of spirit and from 9pm until 3,00am only 3 or 4 drinks an hour not excessive.

Even not drinking draught it is worse a bottle of Becks Bud etc cost about £3.70 and that is for only 330ml. 3 bottles to the litre £11.70 = 2pints @ £5.85pint.

Although i'm a born and bred Worthing boy, Last time i was down i'd been over in Brighton all evening got the last train back and thought let's have another couple of pints in Worthing - The place was like a fecking ghost town - all shut up by 12 on a friday night. The place has gone down hill.

I used to go in the Warwick when it was the Hogs Head - I used to quite like it then, however i was shagging one of the barmaids back then.

The breweries must love the fact that there are mugs who will pay the same price for a half pint bottle that they can buy a pint for

Must be about ten years ago as i was around 20 at the time when it was a hogs head.

I can't believe how half the pubs in Worthing seem to have shut down, It must be bad when even the local Yates establishment shuts up shop.

The Wheatsheaf is OK, was on who do you think you are as well.

Normally drink there when in Worthing, start at the one at the Station.

That came about when Techenquiz the owner put the company into administration at midnight owing £400m and then bought the company out of administration next morning for £150m and reopened all of the Yates, bar 90 lowest profit earners or highest rent establishments of which Worthings was one. Is going to be Tesco Express.

Royal oak is ok.

The real ale is hit and miss.

Pub does a nice, end of Sunday feeling quiz Sunday night, which a guy that I know goes is better at his painting than his quizzes.

On the subject of expensive pubs because of breweries- Enterprise are right rip off merchants. The Red Lion in Jackson bridge, not far outside Holmfirth charges £3.30 for a Kronenbourg!

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Why can't the girlies buy a round? All mine do.

Pub prices might not be the end of the Great British Pub just yet, but certainly hastens the end of custom of buying a round. Hoorah! :clap2:

It was my mothers 90th birthday celebration yesterday and she worked there in 60s when it was The Central.

Could you persuade your mother to sign up and post as "BensGrandad'sMum", or even "BensGreatGrandmother"? Or maybe get Ben himself to start posting as "BensGrandadsGrandson"?
