BBC One - Public Enemies, Episode 2

Is anyone watching this?

Other than a couple of contrived moments, I thought it was very good.
With a usual stand out performance from Daniel Mays.

Just far enough away from LDC
Yep, watched it last night. Very well written. After ashes to ashes, Mays continues to produce fine performances. You don't know whether to feel anger or sympathy for his character and then the twist at the end of episode 1, I didn't see it coming.

Daniel Mays is an outstanding actor - Ashes to Ashes and the Firm were superb

First decent thing on TV for years. Tony Marchant is the scriptwriter and Tiger Aspect is a good firm (good payers too).

But how is it going to end? Somebody has got to lose !?

Guilty as charged is my bet. But I would not know how to write in such an ending. If think the murderer will have to leave town, whether that means going back to prison or leaving on a train with his girlfriend ?

Gripping stuff, enjoying it. The hug and kiss in front of the cameras outside the police station was not a good idea though.

Enjoying Anna Friel  but some parts seem a bit contrived. When he kicks off in the anger class and trashes his room surely they’d recall him but she gives him benefit of the doubt! As this was one of her first cases back at work after being suspended I think she’d do it by the book regardless if she thought he did or didn’t do it.

Jury is Out (Guilty or Not Proven? or Not Guilty?)

Yep. I reckon the GP did it. Good telly though.

You have been watching too much Poirot. Guilty as charged. The trouble is the murderer does not look like and out and out twat or murderer, just behaves like one! But stress could possibly cause this? Dunno. I hope I am not disappointed by the third part.

It does not seem any more contrived than real life.

Nah, the GP neither slept with his ex nor did he murder her. His mate that told him the GP was the culprit, is the culprit.

*caveat - if that is completely off the mark and impossible, in mitigation, I missed ep1 and only caught up with it last night

Lewis would have solved the Stephen Lawrence Murder as well

It does not look like "spotty" has the bottle to do a murder.

I have my doubts on the "condemned" being the murderer. My best shot as a happy ending is that the "murderer in prison" did the dirty deed. He confessed on his death bed etc?

I usually get these wrong.

My money is on the Lenny Kravitz mate of his or he defo knows something, he seems to be hiding something and always looking shifty, think he sent Eddie off to GP to shift away from him cos he feels guilty.

Great programme and enlightening as my wife is not far off completing a Psycholgy degree and is thinking of specialising in criminal psychology, possibly volunteering to mentor newly released criminals for six months after release within the year whilst she finishes up and waits to start her phd.

Mrs. H thinks it's Lenny Kravitz too. I suppose I just wanted it to be the GP because he seems like a bit of a cock.

Enjoyed that last night, thought it was a fairly realistic portrayal, even down to the appearance of the bail hostel (could only have done with being slightly more run down). But in reality, I don't think an offender would have got away with twatting the GP and not being recalled simply because the GP declined to press charges, particularly as it happened in full view of others.

The probation service have a tough job- balancing the rights of society to be protected against the ever-present human rights claims of the offenders. They deal with thousands of people every day, mostly to a degree of success, but the second one of the offenders goes and attacks another innocent person, they're all damned again. Ultimately, human nature is an unpredictable thing, and we can never be 100% sure what everyone will do at all times, so risks have to be taken. Tricky job.
