Very different times and very different in all manner of ways. Remember the lessons of last couple days, rather than late 1930s. Nope, if you’re wandering along to counter protest somewhere tonight you’re creating problems for the Police and your community. You won’t be thanked. Stay home.

Not true - yes it started famously in Cable Street but fascist mobilisations have been a fairly regular feature of British life for the past few decades and I’m afraid they need to be demoralised where they think their strengths are - in the streets. It’s the only language they understand and it works! They will never show their ugly faces in Brighton because they’ve always been run off in the past.

I personally don't see the point in the counter protesters in this instance. They are masking up and look just as ready for a fight and creating disorder. To me, it doesn't seem fair on the Police that they are already trying to manage a potentially very challenging evening without having to manage this group as well. The atmosphere is clearly already charged and there are like two blokes there.

I agree with everything you say.

Perhaps (only my view, not speaking for anyone else) the ‘middle ground’ in this mess is recognising there are serious problems in our society and the riots are a symptom of that. That’s not defending the rioters (who must face the full force of the law) but if we take the line that anyone who shares even a part of their views is simply ‘wrong’, ‘scum’ etc then we will never move forward.

The middle ground, to me, is accepting that people have grievances that we may not share but they are real and need to be considered. That does not condone rioting but it maybe says you don’t want it to happen again.

Oh, without a doubt there are serious social problems in the UK. The problem is in defining what they are, who they effect and what caused them.

People without a doubt have concerns about immigration, yet the ones that do don't seem to have the nouse to work out that if they're living in a shit area with very little money and it's now got more immigrants in it, those immigrants are also in an incredibly poor area.

The right have done a cracking job of dividing these two sets of poor people, because if they ever united they might come together and realise what a shit show the last 14 years have been.
