I genuinely sympathise with her and The Royal Family, and on a human level I hope she makes a swift and full recovery, but continuing on a human equitable level who else gets immediate treatment, pre-emptive chemo, then 4 weeks off witht he whole family to heal with absolutely no worries about money or running a household?

The world HAS changed. Harry has "quit" The Firm, Andrew has been cancelled, the Queen is dead, the Royal Family is looking frail, struggling under the media glare. Yet whilst there is The Civil List and we live in a constitutional monarchy there will be a degree of accountability and expectation from the people, and the media will feed and amplify that because they have a product to sell.

Expecting the media to back off or people to stop speculating is just unrealistic. I would be happy never to hear or read another word about Harry and Meghan but never a week goes by without them being in the news. They court publicity and - unfortunately - this increases William and Kate's profile as the media seek reaction and counter- reaction.

Or, many, many millions have an enduring affection for them and the apparent stability the institution brings in ever more turbulent times. Ireland and Italy adore their presidents who in some ways perform a similar and apolitical function. Yes voted in, but we’re not a republic so don’t need that.

When the Queen died certain posters told us the game was up, few felt affection for Charles or the next gen. The clammer for a republic would be almost instant and unstoppable. That didn’t pan out at all.

I am glad that the truth is now out there.

Sadly, I think that this Kate situation has shown that the relationship between the people, the media and the Royal Family is beyond repair. It is impossible for them to have any sense of normal family life under the global media glare.

I truly believe that most of them are decent, but surely the game is up now. If you take money from the taxpayer you have to have a degree of transparency and accountability, it is a contract between the monarchy and the people, but newspapers with dwindling circulations and a plethora of media channels need a daily diet of stories. This cannot work in the modern age and is inevitably going to end up with a tragic suicide or Diana Part 2. Enough now.

I should add I’m astonished it has been allowed to remain.

Yes, absolutely this. My daughter (a few years younger than Kate) has just been diagnosed with cancer - ironically at exactly the same age as I was diagnosed with cancer. Still, I'm still here 37 years later, so I fervently hope they are both still around and tolerably healthy (if a little elderly!) in 2061.

Like most people I been touched by the awfulness of cancer. It absorbed most of my life over the last couple of years. I wish her a speedy recovery,

It was yet another opportunity for malicious mischief. Ironically it is the ostensibly Royalist Mail that is one of the biggest shit stirrers here. I recall all the sneering about her mother having been a 'trolly dolly' on an aeroplane. The narrative is that Kate is a fake money-grabber with no class. This narrative especially appeals to the snob element of Daily Mail readers (i.e., all of them). And any anti-royal chat also ropes in the republicans, as the two ends of the political horse shoe once again meet in an unholy alliance of wrong.

For me it's the contrast to what King Charles said. It's all about the language. Harry could have used the words ' my brother ' or ' sister in law ' and his use of the word family seems disjointed like it's someone else's. Your brother is your family!

What a staggering over-reaction and misunderstanding of my post.

My stepfather died of lung cancer over a short 4 month period, my step-brother had bowel cancer and is dealing with the aftermath now. The cancer isn't the point. Kate herself saiid yesterday " I am well".

The point is The Royal Family cannot continue like this. See the warning signs. Harry knew this and got out, but the huge implications of that are only now being felt. In the past the monarch had 4 children to delegate to; now Charles has 1 child in The Firm with an ailing wife and a young family.

Charles himself is not well. Andrew is out of the game. Anne is 74.

William is absolutely right to crave privacy but he won't get it. It is not fair his family are being put through this, but it won't end because until his kids are older the focus will be on him and Kate.

This is my view. I know there are millions of republicans out there, there are millions who don't care about the Royal Family and there are millions who love them - my wife queued for 13 hours to see the Queen lying in state. You are clearly a royalist who does not like to confront the truth about the bigger picture and their role in a 21st century modern democracy with increasing widening wealth inequality, access to healthcare and opportunity.

Tough times for William.

He’s always struck me as a chap who’s accepted the privilege and the burden of being a future monarch with commendable equilibrium and humility.

He lost and buried his mum in his teens, in the full glare of the global media, he’s had a massive bust up with his brother, his dad has been diagnosed with cancer - and now his 42 year-old wife, ffs. And all the while, every time he meets or greets someone, he’s acutely aware that for them, it will be a momentous day that they will remember for the rest of their lives. Tough gig. And the less said about his uncle living down the road, the better.

I like William. I thought he did a great job on the Air Ambulance (just a shame he didn’t do it for a little longer) and he does good work raising the profile around men’s mental health issues. He’s an ok bloke.
