Just done a wander round. Can't help but feel that the Albion could have done a float, or had a stall or something. The Police and the Ambulance Service had stalls, why not the Albion? Could have sold some tee-shirts or tried to get rid of all those old pink'n'fluffy Xmas cards of a couple of years back, or just raised the profile of the club and engaged directly with the gay community on some basic level.

No big deal, but just seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity IMHO
Lets not encourage gays to watch the albion, crowds are dropping as it is:lolol:

Must admit I heard something recently about Manchester surpassing Brighton's gay population and I assumed it meant as a percentage per head. No idea where I got it from though. I just assumed it's more a case of Manchester being the gay capital of northern England, whilst Brighton takes credit as Pride of the South.

I thought Pride yesterday was GREAT.

Re: the club getting involved, why not? Although as we don't currently have any openly gay players (as far as I know) it might be a bit strange for the players.

Also, rightly or wrongly, it could well alienate a lot of fans so it's a risky thing to get involved in. I do agree that getting in on the pink pound and continuing our work in reaching out to the community would be a great way to raise the club's profile and it also sticks two fingers up at the away fans who sing homophobic chants. Not only can we rise above it, but we can openly embrace it without shame. Would certainly create a lot of attention

I don't get why any organisation needs the pink anything. Gays are the same as everyone else, they just shag members of the same sex, that has nothing to do with joining the police or going to football, there is nothing stopping them doing either of these things, gay or straight

they have a higher disposable income than, on average of course, their straight counterparts

hence the "pink pound" is fairly important

Stereotypically (and probably realistically) gay men are richer than straight people, partially down to stuff like not (usually) having kids and not (usually) have a high-maintaince or stay at home partner; and (possibly) down to having higher paid jobs, although I can't find anything to prove that. If you can appeal to the gay market, theres rather a lot of cash in it.

What is starting to bother me more than a little is the number of reports about indecent exposure and the like. Are these exaggeration or actually really true ? If they reports are true then I have to agree with those who want to see an end to Pride. I don't care what consenting adults do in private but I don't care for people flaunting their sexuality either.

However, given some of the posts on here alone I'm dubious about the reliability of some of the comments and the fact that the Police report only a few isolated incidents I am rather dubious about some of the remarks in The Argus.

In this modern world of equality surely there should be a "Straight Pride" weekend where the straight community can go out and celebrare their heterosexuality. I personally have nothing against Gay Pride but I feel the rest of us should have some kind of celebration too.

There's nothing to stop you organising it. Go for it.

Excuses, excuses. Prides events were held all over the UK on Saturday - not just in gay old Brighton.

Didn't know that
