preston park area- anyone else just hear a steam trian?

Just saw the smoke rising over Preston Park train and heard the whistle. Forest team arriving in style?

The conductor lady mentioned this yesterday on the train to London - think it is some steam special.

It would have been Battle of Britain Class Tangmere on a tour from East Croydon to Bristol and return. If you want to see it pass on the return trip this evening, it's due to go through Worthing, Hove, Preston Park and up the main line to Croydon. Timings here.

No anoraks enjoy watching diesel trains, steam trains were great I used to sprint to a bridge if one was passing just to get engulfed in steam as it went under. Sad? possibly but I was under 10 and found it quite exciting I doubt you have any recollection of steam trains hence the sniping

We get quite a few of these steam charter trains running, It's allways amusing when they go through tunnels because you just know that within 10 minutes another train driver is going to report the tunnel is on fire! It happens every time.
