Working out here in the U.S of A I would put all my money on the old codger McCain winning unfortunatley.
One example of the average yanks opinion was a woman who was holidaying with her daughter in Miami (as she will NEVER leave the U.S). She said that America is not ready for a black President, or a woman for that matter. Not a surprising opinion, until she told me she was a Democrat!

Probably a good idea to keep track of the evils America are perpetrating around the world as Bush & Chaney march the world to WW3.

Now who will bet that Bush will still be President this time next year:nono:

We all like to disparage the Americans, saying that they won't vote a black man into the White House. However, at least they have got to a stage where a black man is in the running. He has already won one vote-off. How many black politicians do we have in this country? Do the people of NSC think that a black man would be voted Prime Minister?

The New York Times got it spot on in their editorial today - "For decades Republicans fed off Vietnam and more often than not successfully painted Democrats as soft on defense. In this election, it is the Republicans who have to defend an abysmal eight year legacy. We are waiting to hear McCains answers"

McCain is doing his best to distance himself from Bush - and has had some luck as Hurricane Gustav means Bush and Cheney will now be in New Orleans instead of the Republican Convention - but still has an embarrasing voting record which Obama will keep reminding him of. Also, Gustav is reminding a lot of Americans of Bush's (and therefore the Republicans) shameful response to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and his failure to make good on the promises he made in the aftermath.

Many locals are predicting a close run contest with McCain just shading it

nice to see that the abstinence only sex ed her mum champions is working wonderfully in that family.

I was brought up a Catholic and thought they were hypocrites until I met some American Baptists, they will screw anything with a pulse and the concept of fidelity to them only comes when written on a cheap stereo.

You can't accuse the Yanks of being boring (pardon the pun).

16 year old daughter of hard line right winger may or may not have had a child and her mother (the candidate) may or may not have claimed it as her own in order to protect her young daughter's (or her own political) reputation. Now announced that daughter (now 17) is actually pregnant (again?) and marrying the father.

And we thought Boris was a clown? Pres Boz...bring it on!

In London village.
The blogosphere is rife with rumours that Obama is not an American citizen and therefore not eligible to be President.

I personally think its a load of old bunk but make your own mind up at

Obama Crimes

The usual dog whistle racism and one that might backfire given that McCain was not actually born in the USA (Coco Solo Air Base in the Panama Canal Zone).

Has some black American friends over at the weekend and they were convinced that McCain had committed political suicide by appointing her as it was too obvious why he had done so.

I am not so sure... I think you can fool enough people enough of the time.

I so want Obama to win but my friends are by their own admission highbrow liberals who don't really understand white redneck USA and I felt listening to them, that although they loved Obama, they were afraid that things would go pear-shaped.

And, as they work quite hight up in the Consulate here I suspect they know something we don't.

Whoah there - "American through and through"?? What does that mean?? Any candidate for the presidency has to be "American through and through"......
