i disagree. He is American through and through, he fought in the war, he is old and wise, and also he's got a MILF of a wife(for her age)

a wife who's been wearing a cast for weeks because a supporter shook her hand too hard. if you ever got to f the milf, she'd probably fall apart.

even john mccain has called her a ****.

She names her main hobbies as hunting, shooting and fishing, she's anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage, not to mention the "giving children really really shit names" thing, which she's clearly totally in favour of.

Also, am I the only one who thinks she looks vaguely like Karen out of Will & Grace.

Hardly a good democrat then, mind you getting somebody who's pro life will encourage some Republican voters, that's the main reason why they voted that cretin Bush in twice.

American Politics eh ? Might as well be Zimbabwe, it's no real surprise that so few Americans can be bothered to vote.

I quite like John McCain and he wouldn't be the disaster people think. However, I can't believe Obama isn't at least 10 points ahead. I do think Obama will win though. The biggest advantage McCain had was the "experience" card and he's f***ed that up. Obama will hammer home the point that McCain voted with Bush 95%of the time and that will get him there.

I am thankful though that both parties have selected someone to the left of their standard positions

also Bristol in America does not mean Tits like it does over here.

The most likely scenario for her to become President is not for McCain to win and then die, he is pretty unlikely to stand again in 4 years time. Then she'll have a clean run, assuming the Republicans have done OK. And economically things will be better in the US then and Bush will be a distant figure - voters have short memories.

Although personally I still think Obama will win.

American will never vote a Black President in. The final nail in his coffin was when he snubbed Hilary Clinton to be his running partner. He would have brough onboard all the wavering Democrats voters and Clinton supporters, after all she got around 48% of the total votes. He may have had a chance with Clinton on board as it is he threw away his chance through stupidity and pride

I don't agree that he should have had Hillary Clinton as his VP.

The big problem for him would not be her but the presence of Bill in the background all the way. Without Bill I'm sure he would have appointed her without a second thought.

Hillary for VP was never going to happen.

So they won't vote for a Black man (mixed race, actually) but they will vote for a Black man and a woman? The Democrats had to choose a white male to go with Obama. Ideally I would have suggested a Southerner with some to ties to the US labour movement, but Biden is there to tick the "experience" and "foreign policy" boxes.

Any Hilary lover with a brain won't vote for anti-choice god botherers.

That makes her quite conservative in terms of social policy, but it doesn't necessarily make her right wing. At the end of the day she is a Republican, whilst there are crossovers the anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage thing is kinda a given. And thats personal choice anyway. I personally am anti-abortion, I couldn't give a toss if people hunt or not, and whilst I don't have any issue with gay marriage, I can see why people choose to oppose it. And I am quite left wing.

I was under the impression that she was a supporter of quite a few labour reforms - minimum wage, working hours, job protection etc. Thats not overly right wing, is it?

Right -wing is pandering to religous bigots, refusing women a choice on abortion, fueling bigotry against lesbians and gays and supporting illegal wars.

Sorry choosing Clinton as a running mate would be like a sweet little kitten asking a rabid rottweiler to look after it. He would never sleep nights knowing that the Clintons' would be stabbing him in the back and plotting his downfall, at least with the republicans he knows who the enemy are. I can't see America choosing a black president, although I hope I am wrong. McCain is probably surprised to have won the nomination and would have an easy job following that cretin Bush as he couldn't be as bad

What surprises me about Ms Palin is that she wins second prize in a beauty contest and there are no pics to get NSC perving over.

Clearly she's no Marina Pepper.

Chav!!

Like I said I have no idea on her foreign policy and her views on Iraq & Afghanistan, although I could have guessed that would be the case.

Without opening a can of worms, I disagree that it is "right-wing" to be anti-abortion - although in American politics the divide on the issue has tended to be along those lines. I personally find the gay wedding issue strange because I can't really understand how or why anyone can have such strong issue with it, but it is ultimately a personal opinion and there is so much more to being right wing or left wing than personal religous beliefs.

McCain is likely to face large Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress. If I were a betting man I'd bet 58/42 (Senate) and 250/185 (House).

That's the opposite of 'an easy job'. And under our non-parliamentary constitution, we'd be stuck with a minority President for a minimum of four years.

About the only thing McCain could do on his own is start more wars.

Which means that she's a TWAT.

It'll be a travesty if McCain wins this election

How can you say this? What does Obama stand for, he is a complete and utter unknown to even Americans, let alone European's. Why do you pin all your faith on him? He is virtually a blank sheet of paper, just because he looks and sounds good on TV doesn't mean to say he is the answer to all the worlds problems.

Out of the two candidates McCain has so much more experience and in my opinion is the far less likely to take the US to war (and therefore drag us into any conflict). McCain knows the real pain that war brings to individuals and their families being a POW of the NVA for numerous years.
