IF we're down to 24 new cases per day in London- how low do you want to go before releasing measures?!

It’s a fair point. These numbers are the first good news we have had in a while. I would like though to see sustained low numbers across the country and no spikes as lockdown lifts. We are entering a very delicate phase for policy makers and I don’t see any upside in having football complicate things at this stage.

Luckily we have another month until football re-starts so we will establish lower figures and stability during that period.

Hasn't really answered my question. Have people been tested, or is it largely guesswork. Or are you and the Daily Mail seriously saying that only 24 people have shown Covid-19 symptoms in the while of London...

How can it be eradicated from London by June when so many people are now returning to commuting in and out of the Capital.

Think the time to celebrate will be 4 weeks after VE Day, when we will have a better idea if the R rate is genuinely down long term...

Of course. However with a natural R of 3 there is a real risk of a second peak if you release lockdown too soon. We need significantly lower infection rates across the country if we are going to get to the stage of living with and not being overwhelmed by the virus. The lockdown is being eased this early (rightly or wrongly) for short term economic, not long term health, reasons. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating but it will be a shame if impatience to finish 2019/20 causes cancellation of 2020/21.

The natural R of 3 is based on when COVID-19 first appeared - no social distancing, no testing, no measures whatsoever taken to stop it spreading, and most importantly, no immunity.

I could be wrong, but I believe the R would struggle to reach anything like 3 now, even if we eased allmeasures (which of course we aren’t going to do).

True. And very annoying.

The ONLY reason that the Scousers and massively entitled Leeds fans want the season to restart is "self interest". Ditto all the bilge that is coming out of Neville and Carragher at the moment. Sky are losing money hand over fist and desperately need some sport to show to start recharging people for Sky Sports packages. The longer it goes on, the more people may realise they can do without Sky (I'm seriously thinking about not restarting unless it's the only place you can see games). But as soon as experienced pros from teams towards the bottom pipe up it's self interest.

It must be massively frustrating for Sky to see the Bundesliga about to start on BT SPORT!!! It's just rubbing salt into their wounds. All the footie chat over the next few weeks will focus on the Bundesliga, and Sky will either have to report that (and send more traffic to their rivals) or ignore it and risk ridicule.

The machine appears to be rolling to the inevitable re-start this summer.. I think we need to see the players and coaches stop talking or dealing with questions/interviews about the alternatives and assume we will need to be absolutely ready for big games in a matter of weeks. The team will need to adapt to a new competition, however ridiculous it may seem to many of them - too long spent discussing the alternatives will be a distraction and ultimately out of their control in terms of the decision. I am pleased that "we" as a Club have been transparent/consistent/visible, but "we" now need to make sure we ready; ready to enjoy the experience that is coming, more prepared than others we are playing and desperate to take the opportunity we have to cement a place in the PL next season.

I hope you are both right.

The R-value is a theoretical value. I imagine it is calculated based upon all available data which includes all testing. The analysis is not done by the Daily Mail it is done by Public Health England and Cambridge University. These are the figures which have been informing Government policy all the way through. This is a big deal, it's based on the science and its great news

I really hope you are right, and this is indeed good new, and not the one swallow that doesn't make a summer!

Considering the lack of players speaking out about it ( what we talking 5 or 6 ? ) , I think the players are all keen for a restart.

Or given the negative reaction to those who have dared to speak out are keeping their counsel until forced to.

How many Bundesliga players have refused to play? I think it's zero. I totally respect players concerns but I think in a months time, with a month's training under their belts, and a reduced virus situation in play at that time, they may all be reassured enough step on to the pitch.

There have been a fair few more than 6 players who have been caught ignoring the lockdown. Presumably none of them would be reluctant to play.

Conversations between Aguero and Kyle Walker might be interesting.
