VAR isn't going away for obvious reasons so we have to get used to it. Your argument for doing away with lines and letting the ref decide with the naked eye is fine if you want to live with five times as many incorrect decisions as we currently have.

The example The Wizard gives is an interesting case in point. Without VAR 20 years ago, I'd guess 80% of the time the lino would have had his flag up and we'd all have shrugged. But the problem is, that would have been the case also if he'd have been 3 inches ONside. It happened ALL the time because officials were too scared to concede contentious goals.

Personally I think we should simplify the VAR rule with the much discussed feet only rule, and then add a time limit to VAR potentially overturning decisions. 30 seconds unless the decision involves a goal or penalty in which case 60 seconds. Something like that anyway.

Fans can get what they want if they are unified .... is I think the lesson which has been learned recently. No need for that sort of fatalism

And if a decision is incorrect by a few mm, then yes, i'm fine with it not being right. Who cares. Let's get on with a game. Let's be able to celebrate a goal, without it being ruled out a couple of minutes later

It's never going to be perfect but if it's a mm wrong then that can easily be down to how and when they draw the lines so it's subjective, not factual. I also agree that you should have 30 seconds max to check. If it isn't obvious after that, it remains with the on field decision.

Yes if that is possible then that is the way to go. Much better than simply blaming VAR for human error or pedantry in Stockley Park.

Just watched the last 15 mins - how on earth did we lose to Sheff Utd? Surely the worst team to have "graced" the EPL? Even that terrible Derby team from 2007/08 must have been better? They simply have no idea how to play football!!

I'm happy to wrong but I just don't remember pundits in the studio drilling down this forensically.

We have VAR because:-

- Football is fast.
- Referees are human.
- Humans can make mistakes.
- Armchair fans knew of mistakes as they happened.
- 'The media' leapt on every mistake like a pack of rabid dogs.


As said I'm if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, I just don't remember the analysis, uproar, and self-flagellation ever came down to toenail length and shirt sleeves.



For whatever reason the pursuit of unobtainable 'perfection' has caused the powers that be to lose sight of the reasons behind VAR.

I don't know what the answer is, time limit, camera limit, managers call, but somehow the system needs to be allowed to make the errors that'll occur after 10 minutes of scrutiny, in order to catch the centre forward who's punched the ball in.

Or we all accept a centre forward can punch the ball in, and have it pass without comment.

It is THIS FFS. I understand your hand or arm shouldn’t be offside but that will most probably change for next season. If you’re an inch offside you’re f..cking offside

Cambridge Utd promoted to League 1. It’s a great set up there and The Abbey is still a proper old school football ground. Love watching a game there, especially under the lights on a Tuesday night. Looking forward to getting back there next season for a few games.
