On a hiding to nothing. Their fans will always hate a Red, his win ratio would have to be up there with the best to shut the haters up. Which is impossible with the rag-tag of average mercenaries on huge pay going nowhere.

They’re also entirely different games of football. ManC and Liverpool attack from start to finish, full backs 50 yards up field. Almost naive against Potter in only thinking of attack.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, CP, Manure don’t fall for that trap. Plenty of bodies back at all times. Will Newcastle and Villa also seek to crowd us out at the back?

Other than the occasional bad day at the office (Palace) we only seem to have real difficulty against teams that are well organised defensively. We struggle to break them down and our confidence seems to evaporate. I'm hopeful that the addition of Mwepu, the return of Lamptey, and the resurgence of Trossard will be the tools we need to overcome such teams.

I really hope so as i would love to see them in the bottom 3 come the end of the season . Although you can be sure if they finished third from bottom the premier league would suddenly introduce a new rule to allow them to play off with the third team from the championship .

I can see us replicating the Watford performance and result … and I’m normally cautious.

Regarding NUFC, I envisage them spending big in January, possibly three far better players. I can’t see them dropping for that reason alone. Seems almost unfair on the likes of Burnley and Watford. But when has the EPL given a jot about anything other than a ££££ arms race?

I think you're giving too much credence. Yes there will be money, but they are a club in flux, already 6 points adrift of safety with a grubby GD. Their squad is shite.

Who can they attract to appoint as manager ? What kind of quality high-profile coach can they expect to attract to dive straight into a relegation battle ? The fans will expect a BIG NAME, but easier said than done, given where they are.

I remember Mike Walker(?) doing really well at Norwich, back in the day, only for Everton to pinch him.
Within 2 years I think, he was sacked and hardly seen again. That would serve as a warning to anyone let alone a young and upcoming manager like ours.

They are in trouble, and will need to pay hugely over the odds for decent but unspectacular mid-table Premier league players who are just about good enough to avoid the drop from a position of being marooned in the relegation places in January. I'm thinking silly offers of £60-£75m for players like for James Ward-Prowse, Luke Ayling, Christian Norgaard, Teemu Pukki or Hamza Choudhury. If they avoid the drop then they'll recruit heavily in the summer.

Thats where Newcastle are - not many decent PL players will want to shackle themselves to a sinking ship in January if they look doomed by then, and they will indeed have to pay over the odds for anyone, now that they are known to have a bottomless pit.

Add in the fact that I don't think many PL clubs will be falling over themselves to help out Newcastle, be it with either loans deals OR transfers. The clubs down at the bottom certainly won't be looking to help bolster a relegation rival, and the clubs at the top will be absolutely delighted to see a newly-monied potential rival drop down to the second division.

So they'll be shopping abroad in January by the looks. Far from ideal...

I think the destabilising effect will be as much about wages as transfer fees. I think £200k p/w+ will be normal for a player going to Newcastle and that's for the standard of players you mentioned above. I wouldn't be surprised to see a marquee signing for £500k+ in January. Clubs will have a very difficult time keeping players from demanding a move or pay rise when they know their players are being sounded out for these sort of salaries.

This doesn't really reflect reality - the other 19 EPL teams are virulently anti-Newcastle (or, specifically, the takeover). They will do everything in their power to make life difficult for the Horse Punchers. I can certainly see Newcastle having to pay well over the odds for players.

I'm still convinced they'll go down -they're a poor team and the introduction of three or four new players won't suddenly turn them into a top side.

He is exactly what they need though: Newcastle fan so not likely to require too much convincing, proven PL player but not in the "unsellable at any price" category and a HGP which could matter as I expect them to mainly recruit foreign players in the next few years.

As for managers I think they just have to swallow their pride and settle for someone with experience of the league and look for something more fancy in the summer.

Think they will be relegated regardless of what they do in January. Unfortunately it will only be a minor bump in the road.
