I'm not really in disagreement about the penalty as the law stands. The ref was lax but Liverpool benefitted from that by constantly breaking the game up and continued unabated as the ref wouldn't book anyone.

I'm a believer in early yellows when earned. It stops a game of cheating in its tracks.

Most disagree with that, especially punters "The ref wisely allowing one or two early infringements to go".

I think it 6,400, we had the upper tier of the end stand and half of Witton Lane. Favourite chant was a tennis match of "We're the ....... Brighton boys".

Bitterly cold, we stopped at Snow & Rock Chertsey in a detour on the way, as my nipper forgot to bring a coat.

That’s a penalty because it directly strikes an outstretched arm, the one against us deflected and by the law shouldn’t be a penalty, despite some strange ones being given this season (Dunk and Luton vs Wolves)

Both correct calls IMO, I did however think that Konate was fortunate given the referee deemed that a foul and it stopped a clear break, seen them given as a yellow.

Except that it is not the law. The bit about deflections was taken out a few years ago, as discussed on the thread after the Liverpool game.

Handling the ball​

For the purposes of determining handball offences, the upper boundary of​

the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit. Not every touch of a​

player’s hand/arm with the ball is an offence.​

It is an offence if a player:​

• deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the​

hand/arm towards the ball​

• touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body​

unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body​

unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence​

of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By​

having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their​

hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised​

• scores in the opponents’ goal:​

• directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the​

goalkeeper​

• immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental​

The goalkeeper has the same restrictions on handling the ball as any other​

player outside the penalty area. If the goalkeeper handles the ball inside their​

penalty area when not permitted to do so, an indirect free kick is awarded but​

there is no disciplinary sanction. However, if the offence is playing the ball a​

second time (with or without the hand/arm) after a restart before it touches​

another player, the goalkeeper must be sanctioned if the offence stops a​

promising attack or denies an opponent or the opposing team a goal or an​

obvious goal-scoring opportunity.​

• directly from the head or body (including the foot) of another player who is close​

• if the hand/arm is close to the body and does not make the body unnaturally​

bigger​

• when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to​

support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body​

You'll note those bold exceptions do not exist in the current laws of the game. They were specifically removed. It's why the Luton were given a penalty v Wolves - because according to the current laws of the game, there is no 'it came off my own body' exception.

If you think it followed the law because it struck his leg first, you're wrong. That exception was removed in 2021. Howard Webb spoke on one of his TV appearances noting an arm in an 'unnatural position' trumps it coming off the player's own body - I believe in relation to the Luton/Wolves penalty).

Dunk's shouldn't have been a penalty because his arm wasn't in an unnatural position.

Ref in this game is a spineless twat. Gave Zinchenko a yellow because the fans were shouting for it and players got in his face over Rice not getting one. Now Chelsea players surrounding him at every opportunity and getting away with it.

Surely due to proximity? Ball hits his hand but it’s from about a yard away, just not sure how players are meant to jump at that angle without arms flaying.
